England Men name 16-player ODI squad for India

England Men have named a 16-player squad for a three-match Metro Bank ODI series against India this month, starting at Edgbaston on Tuesday, 14 July.

England Men selectors have named a 16-player squad for this month’s Metro Bank ODI Series against India, with one notable inclusion standing out: uncapped Sussex all-rounder James Coles.

Coles comes into the squad as England prepare for a three-match stretch in which Josh Tongue is still waiting for his ODI debut. Alongside them, Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood are both back in the group.

The series begins at Edgbaston on Tuesday 14 July, with the first match set for an 11am start. From there, England move to Sophia Gardens and Lord’s for the second and third ODIs.

  1. So James Coles is uncapped? That seems risky. I guess they’re just throwing him in because India’s bowlers are easy or something.

  2. I don’t really get the whole “waiting for ODI debut” thing. Like if Josh Tongue is good enough to be in the squad, why not just play him every time? Also Jofra Archer back?? Thought he was always hurt.

  3. Edgbaston at 11am, Sophia Gardens at 1, then Lord’s again 11… ok but is that all before lunch for real? I feel bad for the one “uncapped” guy, like they’re testing him against India’s best and that’s kinda wild. Also I’m pretty sure India players would rather play at home anyway so idk why England picked this order.
