Elon Musk’s White House Sleepover Sparked Melania Fight

A new book claims Melania Trump refused to allow Elon Musk to sleep over at the White House, but Donald Trump insisted and the Tesla founder stayed in the Lincoln Bedroom for several nights.

Melania Trump reportedly had a firm line about who could spend the night at the White House — and it didn’t include Elon Musk.

In the new book “Regime Change. ” New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan write about a disagreement between Melania and Donald Trump over an unwanted guest. a claim surfaced through Radar Online on Tuesday. The book’s account says Melania was usually fine with visitors. but she refused to let one person stay over: Trump’s one-time bestie. Elon Musk.

The story traces how Musk ended up getting the invitation anyway. The book describes an earlier moment when Elon asked the President if he could sleep over and Trump agreed, but Melania “put up a big fight.” In the end, Trump won — and Musk stayed several nights in the Lincoln Bedroom.

The passage also includes Musk’s own habits with sleeping arrangements, adding that other nights he stayed with friends. It goes further, saying he told associates he had started using a sleeping bag on the floor of his office in the Eisenhower Building.

Musk, meanwhile, described the sleepover as something the President prompted while they were traveling. Recalling events in May 2025. Musk said Trump asked him where he was staying while they were on Air Force One. and when Musk didn’t know. he was invited to the White House. Musk said he was then given a private tour of the Lincoln Bedroom.

“‘The president’s, very, very, I guess we’re good friends and we’ll be on Air Force One or Marine One and then he’s like, ‘Hey do you want to stay over?’ and I’m like, ‘Sure.’ And then he gave me a tour of the Lincoln Bedroom and… oh, this is cool. … I didn’t request it, to be sure.’”

Musk also praised Trump’s hosting style, saying Trump would call late at night to make sure he got something sweet. “‘He’ll actually call, like late at night, and say, like, ‘Oh, by the way, make sure you get some ice cream from the kitchen.’’”

He said he listened to the request and ate “a whole tub of ice cream” — specifically caramel, Häagen-Dazs.

If Melania’s reported objection had held, the scene might have looked very different. The book’s account frames this as a deliberate refusal — not an accidental scheduling issue — with Melania insisting Musk wouldn’t stay over, even though Trump ultimately allowed it.

The tension lands in a wider backdrop of conflict between Musk and Donald Trump that’s been playing out publicly for months. Even so, things seemed more cordial when both attended a China summit in May.

What made Melania so against the CEO sleeping over? The answer, as the dispute is told here, sits squarely in a private fight — one that ended with Trump insisting, and Musk staying for nights in the Lincoln Bedroom.

  1. I bet this is just tabloid nonsense. If the President said yes then it’s yes, period. Also the Lincoln Bedroom thing is probably fake drama.

  2. Wait, Elon stayed several nights?? Like in the actual bedroom? That seems kinda wild. I thought he was more like the ‘space guy’ not the ‘sleepover guy’ lol. Also Melania “didn’t include Elon” but then Trump insisted… so Trump overruled her? That’s what I’m taking from it.

  3. Every time Trump and Musk are around it’s like a reality show, right. I don’t even trust the Radar Online part though, but the sleeping bag in the Eisenhower Building sounds like he’s trying to look tough or something. Like why is there always a fight over who gets to stay overnight, isn’t that just staff business. Anyway, Melania probably had a point even if it got ignored.
