EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Eau Claire Fire Department announced a line-of-duty death of one of their firefighters.
According to their press release, Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth suffered a sudden medical emergency on July 26 after coming off duty.
Members of the fire service have been, and will continue to maintain, an Honor Watch, ensuring Bryce is never alone until he is laid to rest. This longstanding tradition reflects the promise firefighters make to stand beside one another, both in life and in death.
The Eau Claire Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Bryce’s family, friends and all those affected by this tremendous loss. We respectfully ask the community to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time.
A procession is planned for Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, through the city of Eau Claire. They plan to start in Minneapolis, Minn. at around 11 a.m. and arrive in Eau Claire around 12:30 p.m.
The procession will be as follows:
- Depart the CVTC Emergency Service Education Center and travel east on Truax Blvd.
- South on North Clairemont Ave.
- North on Hastings Way
- Conclude at Melby Street, where Eau Claire Fire Department will conclude their participation. The escort will continue north to Hayward
Members of the public are encourage to gather safely along the procession route. They ask to remain off the roadway, follow all directions from law enforcement and public safety personnel and avoid obstructing the procession.
If timing changes, additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
Eau Claire City Council President Jeremy Gragert and Eau Claire City Manager Dave Solberg are ordering the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff at all city buildings as a mark of respect for the line-of-duty death of Bryce. This order is effective immediately and will continue until sunset on Aug. 10, the day of his interment.
