The Anaheim Ducks acquired the rights to right wing A.J. Greer from the Florida Panthers, sending the rights to defenseman Radko Gudas in return. Anaheim says Gudas captained the club with “heart and soul” over the last two seasons.
The move landed with the quiet certainty of a roster decision: the Anaheim Ducks acquired the rights to right wing A.J. Greer from the Florida Panthers, trading those rights involving defenseman Radko Gudas.
Anaheim General Manager Pat Verbeek framed it as more than paperwork. “Radko Gudas captained our club with heart and soul over the last two seasons while making a great impact in our community. ” Verbeek said. “We offer our thanks and wish him great success going forward. We hope to sign A.J. to a contract and look forward to what he can bring to our club.”.
Greer arrives with recent championship momentum. At age 29 (12/14/96), he helped Florida capture the 2025 Stanley Cup, producing 2-1=3 points across 16 postseason games. In 2025-26 with the Panthers, he set career highs in points (17-15=32), goals, assists and plus/minus (+14).
Over his time with Florida and earlier stops. Greer’s numbers read like a player used to heavy minutes and steady production. He recorded 36-45=81 points with a +18 rating and 448 penalty minutes (PIM) in 326 regular-season games with Florida (2024-26). Calgary (2023-24). Boston (2022-23). New Jersey (2021-22) and Colorado (2016-19).
At 6-3 and 224 pounds, the forward’s track record also stretches through the American Hockey League. He appeared in 278 AHL games with Utica (2021-22). Binghamton (2020-21). Bridgeport (2020-21). Colorado (2018-20) and San Antonio (2016-18). collecting 85-110=195 points. His resume includes a 2017 AHL All-Star Game selection and the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award for community efforts during the 2016-17 season.
Greer’s early path gives the Ducks another reason to believe they’re getting a fully formed pro. Originally selected by Colorado in the second round (39th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. he played one season for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL in 2015-16. scoring 16-11=27 points in 33 games while helping the club win a QMJHL championship and reach the 2016 Memorial Cup. He is a native of Joliette. Quebec. and spent two seasons with Boston University (NCAA) from 2014-16. registering 4-8=12 points in 55 contests.
For Anaheim, the outgoing piece is a defenseman with years of leadership tied to the club. Gudas, 36 (6/5/90), appeared in 203 games with Anaheim from 2023-26, serving as the club’s captain each of the last two seasons. Signed as a free agent on July 1, 2023, Gudas produced 9-38=47 points with a +16 rating in three seasons.
Listed at 6-0 and 208 pounds, Gudas’ broader NHL career spans 885 games, including time with Anaheim, Florida (2020-23), Washington (2019-20), Philadelphia (2015-19) and Tampa Bay (2012-15). He recorded 42-169=211 points with a +89 rating and 1,124 penalty minutes (PIM).
The trade ends one chapter for Anaheim—captaincy built over two seasons and a stated presence in the community—and opens another with Greer. whose recent playoff run and career-high season in 2025-26 have set expectations higher than a typical offseason reshuffling. The next question is straightforward: whether Anaheim can turn the acquired rights into a signed contract. and how quickly Greer can fit the role the Ducks envision.
