Dream’s Angel Reese sets new career high in win over Mercury

Dream star Angel Reese dominated with 31 points and 14 rebounds to lead her squad past the Mercury 99-89 on Saturday night.

Angel Reese experienced the best scoring performance of her WNBA career after torching the nets in the Atlanta Dream’s matchup against the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday night.

Reese is going through the third season of her WNBA career, her first with the Dream. She has fully adjusted to life in Atlanta after two seasons with the Chicago Sky, playing a firm role in the team’s success this year.

Going into the game, Atlanta required a win over Phoenix to punch its ticket to the playoffs. Reese understood this assignment and delivered with a major performance to achieve the objective.

In 35 minutes of action, Reese dominated Phoenix defenders throughout the game. She filled up the stat sheet with 31 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and two assists. She shot 14-of-21 from the field, including 0-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Her efforts paved the way for her to achieve a career high in scoring throughout the game.

For the first time in her career, Angel Reese is playoff bound. Her efforts have helped the Dream take down the Mercury by a 99-89 score on the road.

Atlanta got off to a strong start against Phoenix, leading 50-35 at halftime. Despite Phoenix’s efforts to make a rally, the Dream responded with big plays in the fourth quarter to secure the win by double-digits.

Four players scored in double-digits for Atlanta in the loss, including Reese. Rhyne Howard came next with 20 points and five assists, Allisha Gray had 17 points and five rebounds, while Jordin Canada provided 12 points and five assists.

Atlanta improved to a 24-13 record on the season, taking over first place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty at the moment.

Rolling with three consecutive wins, the Dream will look forward to their next matchup on the road. They take on the Los Angeles Sparks as tip-off commences on Aug. 24 at 10 p.m. ET.
