Angel Reese is finally playoff bound as she helped the Atlanta Dream secure a place in the 2026 WNBA postseason after beating the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday night.
Going into the matchup, Atlanta has been shining as one of the best teams in the league. They are in contention for the East’s top seed, wanting the best pathway to reaching the WNBA Finals.
Reese has played a pivotal role in Atlanta’s success this year, having yet to experience playoff action during the first two years of her budding career. Safe to say that third time’s the charm as she will have excitement for September.
Atlanta’s magic number was one as the team needed to beat the Mercury to secure a playoff berth. They coasted to a 99-89 victory on the road, completing an important objective in the process.

How Dream played against Mercury
Angel Reese and the Dream look forward to making their case as title contenders. Their 99-89 win over the Mercury to secure the playoff berth is a major step in the right direction.
Four players scored in double-digits for Atlanta in the loss. Reese dominated with a stat line of 31 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and two assists. She shot 14-of-21 from the field, including 0-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Rhyne Howard came next with 20 points and five assists, Allisha Gray had 17 points and five rebounds, while Jordin Canada provided 12 points and five assists.
Atlanta improved to a 24-13 record on the season, taking over first place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty at the moment.
Rolling with three consecutive wins, the Dream will look forward to their next matchup on the road. They take on the Los Angeles Sparks as tip-off commences on Aug. 24 at 10 p.m. ET.
