ECape MEC promises drainage plan for Mandela Bay

Eastern Cape Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Zolile Williams, says his department will soon create a proper drainage system in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality. He says the aim is to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall. In the past, severe flooding was attributed to an outdated drainage system. “We are going to try and develop temporary stormwater channels that would be on top of the surface of the road, as the engineers told us. We are advising that they must bring gravel and
also open up stormwater channels so that we can be able to control the water, as you can see how it is damming up. And then, because of these informal settlements that are all over Nelson Mandela, most of them have been affected by disaster,” Williams says.
