Dozens of Prepared Foods With Jalapeños Recalled for Salmonella Risk – Consumer Reports

The recalled products were sold under a variety of brand names at Albertsons, Dillons, H-E-B, Hannaford, Kroger, Publix, RaceTrac, Randalls, Stop & Shop, Target, Tom Thumb, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Wawa, and Whole Foods stores.
You can find lists of the specific products on the FDA’s website, the Department of Agriculture’s website, and Publix’s website. Whole Foods has also released a list of its recalled products. It appears that many of the prepared foods were distributed to the stores by Taylor Farms and Greencore USA/Bakkavor USA, although most of the products were sold under different brand names or without a brand name at all.
The jalapeños were grown in northwest Mexico and supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors, a large-scale wholesaler of fruits and vegetables.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked jalapeños from this company served in dishes at Mexican-style restaurants, particularly Chipotle and Qdoba, to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 345 people in 27 states since June. However, no illnesses to date have been linked to the recalled jalapeño-containing prepared foods.
In late July, Chipotle switched its jalapeño supplier and Qdoba stopped serving jalapeños. As a result, the FDA and the CDC say they don’t consider there to be a current ongoing risk from eating at these restaurants.
Representatives from Taylor Farms and Bakkavor USA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
