Donald Trump’s nephew shuts down the president’s alleged tall tales about his activities surrounding 9/11: ‘His claim so offends me that I need to speak out’

Donald Trump’s nephew is speaking out about the president’s claim that he helped after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Fred Trump III said his uncle’s stories about bringing workers to Ground Zero and being carried to safety by firefighters bothered him enough to speak out ahead of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. 

Donald repeated the alleged tall tales on Tuesday during a ceremony honoring victims and first responders.

Disputing his uncle

The 63-year-old said he felt it was time to speak up, joining his sister Mary Trump, who has also criticized their uncle. 

“There are two reports out today that relate to the tragedy of 9/11. I will comment on them today because doing so on the 25th anniversary this Friday would take away from the solemn memories,” he wrote on X. 

“I try not to comment personally about my uncle, but his claim that he brought a crew of workers to help at the sight so offends me that I need to speak out,” Fred continued. 

“He was not building a ‘big building’ at the time. The only crew he claimed to bring to the site would have been secretarial and accounting employees from Trump Tower I knew many of them, and pretty sure they were not capable physically to help (if they could, I am sure they would try).”

U.S. Steel Building

Fred also questioned Donald’s description of the U.S. Steel Building, which is now known as One Liberty Plaza.

“Regarding the U.S. Steel Building, ironically, the grandfather of a very close friend of mine was one of the original engineers — the bldg. was built strong,” he wrote. 

He added that the brother of a business partner was an engineer who was called in to inspect the building after the attacks.

“While people were originally concerned, it was eventually cleared for occupancy — not creaking and ready to fall. I hope this brings some truth to that story. The second story will follow.” 

Criticism of Giuliani

Fred followed up with another post, responding to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s comments about current Mayor Zohran Mamdani attending 9/11 memorial services. 

“The second disturbing story that came out yesterday regarding the 25th anniversary of 9/11 was when NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani @NYCMayor said he would attend memorial services as is his right,” he wrote. “Soon after, former mayor Rudy Giuliani @RudyGiuliani said ‘he was offended by Mamdani’s attendance.’ Why? Surely because of Mandami’s religion.”

“Remember George Bush’s words on 9/17 — ‘Islam is peace,’” he added. “Full disclosure, I did not vote for Giuliani in any of his campaigns, though I thought he did a commendable job bringing the City together after the attacks. But in my opinion, he went too far, including a demand that he stay in office after his second term ended.”

Fred recalled that Giuliani later spoke at his real estate company’s annual lunch after starting a security company.

“It was just after he started his security company and it was clear to most that he was ‘cashing in,’” Fred wrote. “The rest is history. I wish he would just finally go away.”

Trump’s account 

Fred’s post came after Donald talked again about what he did following 9/11, saying he “took the whole crew down there right after this happened, and they were — they had no hesitation.”  

“Everybody went down with me. We went down as a big group of people. Wasn’t too much we could do, I’ll be honest. It was, it was raw, and nobody’s seen anything like it, ever,” the president claimed. 

“We had other buildings, the United States Steel Building was creaking, really creaking, and we thought it was going to fall down. The truth is, it creaked a lot. It creaked. It still creaks, but, uh, it never came down.” 

He continued, “And I — I’ll never forget two firemen. We thought it was coming down on top of us, and two firemen, big, strong guys. And I’m not the smallest guy in the world. They grabbed me under the arms. They — ‘Gotta get out of here!’ And they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do. I’m big. They lifted me up and they started running with me. I said, ‘Fellas, I can run myself.’”
