Donald Trump suggests renaming New Mexico as ‘New America’ and floods Truth Social with posts featuring his face over Iran and Hulk Hogan
Donald Trump drew renewed attention with a series of Truth Social posts on September 6, including a map labeling New Mexico as “New America” and images featuring his face superimposed on Iran’s map and Hulk Hogan. The posts appeared during a rapid burst of activity, with the president sharing dozens of images and memes within a few hours.
New Mexico gets a new name
In one post, Trump suggested renaming New Mexico as “New America,” displaying a map with “Mexico” replaced by “America.” This follows previous efforts to rename prominent geographic locations with America-themed titles.
After returning to office in January 2025, Trump directed that the Gulf of Mexico be renamed the Gulf of America, stating the change would “honor American greatness.” He later issued an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America during an escalating trade dispute with Canada.
The president, as Hulk Hogan, and Iran’s reshaped map
Trump’s posts extended beyond maps and geographic names. In one, he replaced Hulk Hogan’s face with his own and added a “MAGA” bandana to the image.
Another image depicted Iran’s borders shaped like Trump’s head, referencing the ongoing U.S. conflict with Iran. This was part of a larger set of AI-generated posts that dominated Trump’s Truth Social feed during this period.
Other posts shared during the spree
Trump also posted an image suggesting American ownership of the Moon, pairing a picture of the lunar surface with the declaration, “THE MOON IS OURS,” followed by a U.S. flag emoji. Another post featured an apparent image of the Titanic sinking with “Dumocratic Party” written on the ship.
His posts included futuristic and militaristic themes, such as Trump with an army of robots, conducting warfare from space, and trading stocks in the Oval Office. He also shared an image of Iran’s oil-rich Kharg Island being destroyed.
Trump posted several images of himself with George Washington, including one in the Oval Office. Another cartoon mocked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney by labeling him “governor,” reflecting Trump’s repeated claim that Canada should become a U.S. state.
Trump also shared a presidential ranking that placed him first as the greatest. Abraham Lincoln and Washington were listed as great presidents; Ronald Reagan and Grover Cleveland as near-great; Bill Clinton, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy as average; George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford as below average; and Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and George W. Bush as failures.
