Donald Trump Addresses Backlash Over Reporters Flying on Air Force One While He Took Another Jet Amid Apparent Threat

This week, a report emerged that Donald Trump hid in an airport catering truck to secretly fly out of Turkey on a military jet earlier in the summer amid an apparent threat against his life.

The White House has said publicly that the 80-year-old POTUS was aboard Air Force One when he left the NATO summit in Ankara back in July.

After this story emerged, many were wondering about the safety of the staff and reporters who flew on Air Force One that day.

Trump explained why he did not fly on Air Force One

“I go by Secret Service and the military. They wanted me to go in a different flight, different plane,” Trump said to reporters on Tuesday (August 11).

Trump shares his theory about why the Air Force One passengers might not have been in harm’s way

“Why was it too dangerous for you to fly on Air Force One but not too dangerous for the press?” a reporter asked Trump.

“I think actually the plane that I flew on was at greater risk. I think it was at greater risk because that would be the plane I think that they would be more likely to go for,” Trump responded.
