Djokovic Sees Path Forward After Health Struggles Ahead of Paris Masters

Novak Djokovic believes he is nearing a resolution to the physical setbacks that have disrupted his campaign this season, as the Serbian star prepares for a strong finish at the Paris Masters in pursuit of a spot at the season-ending ATP Finals.
Djokovic, who continues his pursuit of a record 25th major title following his last Grand Slam victory at the 2023 US Open, experienced a mixed season of deep tournament runs and early exits. He reached the final at the Australian Open and advanced to the semi-finals at Wimbledon, but suffered early eliminations at the French Open and the US Open.
Reflecting on his physical struggles, Djokovic told reporters that his primary preoccupation shifted during the year away from traditional competitive goals. For much of a truncated schedule, the focus remained on physical well-being rather than strictly on performance because health presented a major obstacle.
Addressing external speculation, Djokovic pushed back against outside commentary regarding his condition. He noted that his difficulties stemmed entirely from physical health rather than deficiencies in preparation or training volume, adding that many commentators often express firm opinions without knowing the reality of his situation.

Despite the hurdles, the 39-year-old captured his 102nd career title in Beijing last month, though subsequent early exits followed in Shanghai and Basel. He currently sits 11th in the race to Turin standings, where only the top eight players qualify for the year-end championship. His chances for qualification received a boost from the absence of world number two Jannik Sinner, who is sidelined with an injury.
Recent improvements in his physical state have directly translated to better on-court comfort and elevated play. Djokovic explained that as his physical condition has improved in recent weeks, his performance level, enjoyment, and execution on the court have followed suit.
He pointed to his victory in Beijing as his finest week of the season outside of Australia and expressed satisfaction with his level in Basel, despite falling in a close match. Enjoying the final weeks of the season and feeling physically sound remain his primary objectives, with performance naturally following.
Djokovic is scheduled to face Valentin Vacherot in his opening match at the Paris Masters. The tournament, running from November 2 to November 8, precedes the ATP Finals, which are scheduled from November 15 to November 22.
