Five-Star Forward Zion Green Commits to Alabama for 2027

Alabama basketball has secured a significant recruiting milestone for its future roster with the commitment of five-star forward Zion Green, adding one of the country’s most coveted high school prospects to its 2027 class.

Green, ranked as the No. 16 overall player in ESPN’s SC Next 100, announced his decision to commit to the Crimson Tide on Saturday. He confirmed the choice to ESPN, providing head coach Nate Oats with another elite cornerstone as the program continues to draw top-tier talent.

The 6-foot-9 forward originally hails from Philadelphia and currently attends Compass Prep in Arizona. In making his choice, Green evaluated offers from several major collegiate programs, ultimately selecting Alabama over heavy pursuit from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss.

The addition marks a notable achievement for Oats and his coaching staff. According to ESPN, Green stands as Alabama’s second top-25 commitment for the 2027 class, following earlier pledges, and represents the program’s third five-star recruit over the past four recruiting cycles. He joins highly regarded guard Chase Lumpkin, establishing an exceptionally strong early foundation for the Crimson Tide’s 2027 group.

On the court, Green offers an imposing physical profile paired with perimeter mobility. Standing nearly 6-foot-10, the forward combines size and length with the ability to handle the basketball, generate scoring chances, and stretch opposing defenses with his shooting range. Those attributes align closely with Oats’ up-tempo offensive philosophy, which prioritizes floor spacing, fast-break opportunities, and heavy reliance on three-point shooting.

Beyond athletic fit, Green highlighted the consistency of the coaching staff throughout his recruitment. Speaking with ESPN, he credited Alabama’s staff for maintaining their dedication to recruiting him even as his national ranking and profile continued to climb.

The commitment underscores Alabama’s expanding capability to secure elite prospects against traditional collegiate powerhouses. Having cemented the Crimson Tide as a consistent Southeastern Conference contender, Oats aims to sustain that momentum through high-level roster additions designed to contend for conference titles and deep postseason runs in the NCAA Tournament.
