Disney cut Gina Carano after Nazi Germany post

Why Gina – Gina Carano’s firing from Star Wars’ Lucasfilm came after a chain of controversial social media posts, culminating in a comparison that likened the treatment of Republicans to Jews under Nazi Germany. The Mandalorian star’s character Cara Dune also disappeared

Gina Carano’s road from playing a key character in The Mandalorian to being cut loose by Lucasfilm has been traced back to posts she made after her Disney+ series role—and the moment her employers said they could no longer tolerate them.

Carano. who starred in the 2019 Disney+ series The Mandalorian after earlier film roles including Haywire and Fast and the Furious 6. appeared in two seasons of the show.. But production companies ended their relationship with her in early 2021. after controversial social media activity that included mocking COVID mask mandates. alleging fraud in the 2020 presidential election. and comparing the treatment of Republicans to that of Jews in Nazi Germany.

The controversy escalated in the months after she posted those claims.. Just weeks into Joe Biden’s presidency—and barely a month after the Jan.. 6 attack on the U.S.. Capitol—Carano shared an Instagram Stories message suggesting Republicans were being treated like Jews in Nazi Germany.. “Jews were beaten in the streets. not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. ” she wrote. according to the post description. accompanied by a sad face emoji.. She added in quotation marks: “Because history is edited. most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews. the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

That post was described as the point where her employers drew the line.. In a statement. the company said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. ” adding that “her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano’s supporters, after the firing, cast her as a martyr, and her subsequent career moves fed the narrative.. In 2022. she starred in a film produced by right-wing outlet The Daily Wire and another distributed by Breitbart News. which was about Hunter Biden.. She later filed a lawsuit—funded by Elon Musk—against Disney for wrongful termination, a case that was settled in 2025.

In the Star Wars universe, her departure reshaped what viewers saw on-screen.. Cara Dune was introduced in the first season of The Mandalorian as a former Rebel shock trooper hardened by the Galactic Civil War.. Near the end of that season. Cara helped the Mandalorian eliminate an Imperial remnant on the planet Nevarro and decided to stay to help law enforcement.. In Season 2, she became the marshal of Nevarro and recruited the Mandalorian to destroy another Imperial base on the planet.. Later, she joined the titular character’s team to rescue Grogu from the show’s villain Moff Gideon.

After Carano was fired, the show’s story kept moving.. In Season 3. viewers learn that Cara Dune had been recruited to join the New Republic’s special forces and was no longer on Nevarro.. Her home planet was revealed to be Alderaan. the world where Princess Leia grew up and which was destroyed by the Death Star in the original 1977 film.

The question now is whether Carano will return to the Star Wars galaxy beyond the small screen.. The new movie is set for release May 22 and will be the first theatrical release of a Star Wars film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.. Still. Lucasfilm’s statement in connection with the settlement said the company looked forward to “identifying opportunities to work together with Ms.. Carano in the near future.”

Carano has also pointed to conversations with the creators of The Mandalorian.. She said she had spoken to them early in 2026 on a Zoom call. recalling that “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were two people that I always respected. ” and describing the exchange as a chance to “mend whatever. to make sure everybody was good.” She added: “It was an important conversation.. To Zoom, to see each other, to mend whatever, to make sure everybody was good,” adding that “everybody was good.”

Back in December 2020. Disney announced a new live-action Star Wars show. Rangers of the New Republic. expected to feature Carano’s character in her law-enforcement role for the budding New Republic. picking up where her story left off in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.. That show never came to pass after Carano was ousted. a fate that was framed as not unusual for Disney and the franchise. which have announced a handful of projects that didn’t ultimately materialize.

A clear sequence runs through the record: she posted messages mocking COVID mask mandates and alleging fraud in the 2020 presidential election. then weeks into Joe Biden’s presidency shared a Nazi Germany comparison in Instagram stories. and Lucasfilm later said her social media denigrating people based on cultural and religious identities made her separation final—while the TV story moved Cara Dune into the New Republic’s special forces in Season 3.
