Diogo Jota’s last Instagram post still freezes time

Twelve months have passed since the football world awoke to the devastating news that Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, had died in a car crash . And the tragic nature of his final Instagram post before the accident remains just as poignant today. Jota, who was 28 at the time of his death, left an indelible mark on the hearts of countless Liverpool supporters throughout his five-year spell at Anfield . He lifted the Premier League , FA Cup and League Cup with
the club, while also reaching the Champions League final. He also tasted considerable success with Portugal, including two UEFA Nations League victories. And he was still basking in the glory of the second, a penalty shootout triumph against Spain , in June 2025 when he celebrated another significant life landmark. The forward would almost certainly have featured in this summer’s World Cup squad as his country compete across North America. Roberto Martinez’s side are donning wristbands bearing his name at the tournament to honour his
memory. Shortly after Portugal’s Nations League success, Jota jetted off on holiday with his family, where he also wed his childhood sweetheart, Rute. He marked the occasion in early July with a post commemorating the date alongside a caption that read: “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever [Infinity emoji].” The upload offered an intimate behind-the-scenes glimpse of their special day. Accompanied by footage from their wedding, a voiceover played throughout the video, saying: “Dear Rute, dear Diogo. This is a day that will mark your
lives for the rest of your days. “This is the only day that you have been able to get together, at the same in the same place your family, your friends to celebrate what truly matters, which is love.” Less than 24 hours after the post appeared on Jota’s account, news of his and his brother’s devastating accident had already begun to surface. As a result, that commemorative video stands frozen in time as a tribute to what Jota cherished most in this world. When
supporters visit Jota’s official Instagram page, even now, that compilation of the couple’s most treasured day remains the first thing they’ll see. It serves as a deeply fitting memorial to a man who strived for success in order to provide for those he loved. Jota is survived not only by partner Rute but their three children. The couple had two sons, Dinis and Duarte, and a daughter born in November 2024. Their sons appeared as mascots when Jota’s former sides Liverpool and Wolves met in
December 2025. Wife Rute was also present and has repeatedly expressed her gratitude to Liverpool’s supporters for their outpouring of affection towards her late husband.

That video freezing thing is just unreal… I can’t even.
Wait so the Instagram post is still up like nothing happened? That’s kinda creepy honestly. Also 12 months already?? Feels like it was last week.
Freezing time or whatever sounds like a metaphor, but people keep acting like it’s literally stuck. I mean if it’s “frozen” it’s probably just because Instagram caches stuff right? Still sad though, and that family stuff is heartbreaking.
I saw this on TikTok and I’m still messed up about it. Car crash plus he just got married like??? Like how does that even happen. And the kids being mascots like that’s gonna make me cry every time. Also I can’t believe they’re doing wristbands for him at the World Cup, that’s both sweet and depressing.
