Did Orioles’ Pete Alonso hit a home run vs. Yankees? MLB’s answer draws NSFW reactions

Pete Alonso was at the center of a home run controversy during the Orioles’ 5-3 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.

In the bottom of the seventh inning of the Baltimore Orioles’ Wednesday night clash against the New York Yankees, slugger Pete Alonso came to the plate to face lefty reliever Brent Headrick with the score tied at 3-3. Alonso then wasted no time, swinging on a hanging slider on the first pitch of the at-bat, and he launched that all the way to the bleachers over the left field wall to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead.

That was, of course, until the umpires ruled that the ball Alonso hit crossed over to the stands on the wrong side of the foul pole. The Orioles first baseman was then called back to the plate, and Alonso, perplexed, was waiting for the officiating crew to review the play. In the end, despite the review, the ruling on the field stood, and the score remained tied between the two teams.

Alonso proceeded to strike out, and the Orioles, instead of turning the game in their favor with a momentum-swinging home run, failed to score for the rest of the game. The Yankees, meanwhile, scored on the very next half-inning, with George Lombard Jr. driving in the go-ahead run.

Upon closer inspection, some fans thought that Alonso hit a home run fair and square. But evidently, MLB didn’t rule it that way. This then prompted a plethora of angry reactions from fans on social media, who believe that MLB’s bias reared its ugly head in their ruling on this play.

“It’s a New York replay center. Shocker, rigged league,” X user @cherrybuster_69 wrote.

“HOW THE F**K DO THEY STILL HAVE REPKAY REVIEW IN NEW YORK MCLOUTH AND THEN ALONSO F**KING BULLS**T ITS NOT F**KING CLOSE ITS BY DEFINITION OF THE FIAR BALL,” @JM3SZN added.

“how was this kept as a foul ball? seems to be one of the clearest calls to overturn that I’ve seen. While I preferred the Mets keep Pete Alonso, I am neutral on Orioles and Yankees. but this call really looks bad,” @LRubinsonWFAN furthered.
