Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll beaned, still drives in run

Corbin Carroll’s reputation in Arizona is built on triples—dangerous line drives into the gaps that keep defenses sprinting and stopwatches running.

Tuesday’s moment looked different at first. Carroll roped a ball deep to center field and reached third for another signature three-bagger. Then the relay throw came in hot and bounced off his helmet and skipped back into the outfield. Carroll stayed aggressive and scampered home for a run, turning a painful-looking collision into an immediate scoring play.

The Diamondbacks got the early lift from that sequence, but it didn’t flip the night. The San Francisco Giants took over from there, fueled by home runs by Rafael Devers and Daniel Susac. After six innings, San Francisco held a 6-1 advantage.

Carroll’s standout year has become a steady rhythm for Arizona—three bases at a time, and now, once, even with his head in the middle of the relay. Going into Tuesday, he entered the slate leading all of baseball with five triples.

Over his first 44 games in 2026, Carroll was hitting .284 with seven home runs, 24 RBIs and six stolen bases. Heading into the game, he ranked second on the Diamondbacks in stolen bases and third in both home runs and RBIs.

The bigger picture for Arizona is that this is the kind of production the team leans on across the long grind. Carroll is coming off a 30/30 season, and he has recorded at least 22 home runs and 32 stolen bases in every year since 2023. During that stretch, he earned two All-Star nominations.

In a division where the NL West can punish you for every slip. the Diamondbacks know competing while healthy is where they gain their edge—and Carroll is central to that belief. The franchise might not expect many more triples turned into inside-the-park-style chaos by a head-bonk relay. but with Carroll scoring a run even after the ball came off his helmet. Arizona has every reason to take it.

As Tuesday’s game moved forward, though, the score told the story of what was missing: San Francisco’s power was doing the damage, and the Giants’ 6-1 lead after six innings gave them control heading into the next moments of the matchup.
