ANAHEIM, Calif. — Reid Detmers made it look like a routine night on the mound until the Texas Rangers handed the ending back in a way nobody could tidy up.

Detmers was nearly perfect through eight innings. retiring 24 of the 25 batters he faced and striking out a career-high 14 while allowing one home run: Jake Burger. who took a changeup for a lead-off blast in the second. He induced 23 misses among 51 swings. and his total of 14 strikeouts matched the most in the major leagues this season. a mark shared by Seattle’s Emerson Hancock on May 2 against Kansas City.

The Rangers did not stay helpless for long. Mike Trout tied the score in the third with a broken-bat RBI single off MacKenzie Gore.

By the time the ninth arrived, the game felt locked in place—until it wasn’t. After Sam Bachman (1-0) struck out Burger to strand the bases loaded. the bottom of the ninth opened with Jorge Soler singling against Gavin Collyer (1-1) with one out. Jo Adell was hit by a pitch, and Donovan Walton pinch ran for Soler.

Then came the play that decided everything. Oswald Peraza flared a potential double-play chance—a one-hopper over the mound. Foscue fielded the ball near second, juggled it, and pulled it out of his glove while stepping on the base. His throw to first bounced away from Burger, and Walton scored standing up to give the Angels a 2-1 lead.

The sweep wasn’t just a win; it was a reset. The Angels entered the series having dropped nine straight, and Sunday’s finish gave them their first series sweep this season.

Next for the Rangers, RHP Kumar Rocker (2-4, 3.60 ERA) will face Astros RHP Tatsuya Imai (1-3, 8.31) at Houston on Monday night.

For the Angels, RHP Jack Kochanowicz (2-3, 4.55 ERA) is set to take on Tigers RHP Keider Montero (2-3, 3.83) in Detroit Tuesday night.
