Derrick Henry embraces offseason grind into Ravens Year 11

Derrick Henry says he’s already doing offseason work as the Ravens prepare for training camp, pointing to his conditioning routine and leadership as he enters his 11th NFL season.

Derrick Henry showed up for the Ravens’ Organized Team Activities while Lamar Jackson stayed away at the start of the offseason program—yet Henry made it clear he’s treating this stretch of the year like the most important part of the calendar.

“I love putting the work in. conditioning. being in the weight room. being around the guys. and putting the work in in the offseason. ” Henry said. “This time is when you get to tune up everything. make mistakes. learn from those mistakes. and then when training camp comes around. you’re rolling. But the offseason is just putting the work in as much as you can, so the results show.”.

Heading into his 11th NFL season, the running back acknowledged that many players at his position can’t say the same story year after year. Henry says the reason he feels ready is the work he puts in on his own, especially the conditioning designed to keep him prepared “every year.”

“I just try to take care of my body, get some body work throughout the offseason, just so I’m ready during this time and when camp comes, just doing my normal routine,” Henry said.

At 32, Henry is also thinking about what his preparation teaches the people around him. He wants the effort to show—on the field and in how he approaches every rep—because he believes younger teammates are watching.

“I’m always trying to work as hard as I can, get as much out of the rep,” Henry said. “I like my work to show. . . . Trying to be a great example for myself, and the younger guys.”

That message fits the direction of the new staff, too. Henry said he believes he and new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter share the same mindset about hard work and accountability.

“Excited to be here, excited to put in the work,” Henry said. “Get the work in so we can get the results we want.”
