DepEd Launches Yakap Caravan To Ease School Healthcare Burdens

EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara announced that the Department of Education (DepEd) is easing the healthcare cost burdens of learners, teachers, and parents through the Yaman ng Kalusugan (Yakap) Caravan, which delivers free medical services directly to schools.According to Angara, the initiative is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

to ensure that healthcare services are prompt and easily accessible.“It is not enough to just have books and classrooms.

Our students must also be healthy so that they can learn better and have a brighter future,” Angara explained.A joint undertaking between DepEd and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.

or PhilHealth, the Yakap Caravan serves as a community-based health gateway that brings free medical consultations and primary care services directly to school campuses, particularly in communities located far from healthcare facilities.Parents and teachers expressed their gratitude for the program.Marissa Sanchez, a parent, shared that the free medicines for her diabetes and cholesterol provided significant relief.Meanwhile, teacher Helen Gador noted that the program allows educators to better prioritize their own health while continuing their duties to their students.Learner Erylle Ortega also voiced support, saying that the program benefits not only the students but also the parents and teachers within their community.DepEd continues to promote the Yakap Caravan as part of its commitment to strengthening the health and well-being of learners nationwide.
