A video clip circulated online after President Donald Trump made sweeping claims involving Chinese President Xi Jinping, the U.S. military, and diplomatic efforts around Iran. In the footage. Trump told reporters. “President Xi was very complimentary of our military… We have the greatest military in the world. We’re not going to let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”.
He added, “I was called by these three countries, plus others and they’re dealing directly with our people and right now, Iran. There seems to be a very good chance that they can work something out. If we can do that without bombing the hell out of them, I will be very happy.”
Critics quickly seized on the claims. One X user reposted the clip and wrote. “The demented president making up delusional comments from a convo that did not ever happen. Totally normal.” Another user said, “Due respect Mr. President — but we’d like to hear the audio tape of President Xi complimenting our military. It’s not that we don’t believe you, but, we don’t believe you. Did Xi make the comments during one of your ‘perfect phone calls?’”.
A third commenter compared it to burglary and bragging, writing, “This is exactly like giving a burglar a grand tour of your house and bragging, ‘He was very, very complimentary of where I keep the jewelry safe. He was amazed, actually.’”
The fallout did not stay confined to social media. Calls to remove Trump from office grew louder as Rep. Jamie Raskin. ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee. sent a letter to White House physician Captain Sean Barbabella demanding a comprehensive cognitive and neurological evaluation of Trump. along with public release of the findings.
In the letter. Raskin wrote. “At a time when our country is at war — especially when the war was initiated by the President without Congressional declaration or consent — the American people must be able to trust that the Commander-in-Chief has the mental capacity to discharge the essential duties of his office.”.
The demand landed amid discussion among some Democrats and several MAGA-aligned figures about removal through the 25th Amendment or impeachment. Any effort to invoke the 25th Amendment would require support from a majority of the Cabinet and Vice President J.D. Vance, and there was no indication either was considering such action.
Rep. Yassamin Ansari. who is of Iranian descent. called for Trump’s removal. writing. “The President of the United States is a deranged lunatic and a national security threat to our country and the rest of the world.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries described Trump’s rhetoric as “disgusting and unhinged. ” adding on X. “Something is really wrong with this guy.”.
He shared a post captioned “Disgusting and unhinged Easter message from Donald Trump. Something is really wrong with this guy. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut also weighed in on X, writing, “If I were in Trump’s Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment. This is completely, utterly unhinged. He’s already killed thousands. He’s going to kill thousands more.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene, once a close Trump ally, likewise called for his removal, describing the president’s threats as “evil and madness.” Several longtime allies and supporters also questioned Trump’s fitness for office, with some urging the Cabinet to begin proceedings under the 25th Amendment.
On the international stage, condemnation of Trump’s rhetoric escalated alongside the domestic backlash. Iran’s representative to the United Nations. Amir-Saeid Iravani. said Trump’s threats “constitute incitement to war crimes and potentially genocide” and warned Iran would “take immediate and proportionate reciprocal measures” if devastating strikes were launched.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said attacks targeting civilian and energy infrastructure could amount to a war crime. A spokesperson for U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was “deeply troubled” by the rhetoric, adding that no military objective justified targeting civilian infrastructure.
Kenneth Roth. former executive director of Human Rights Watch. said. “Trump is openly threatening collective punishment. targeting not the Iranian military but the Iranian people.” Roth added that collective punishment during armed conflict violates the Fourth Geneva Convention. saying. “Attacking civilians is a war crime. So is making threats with the aim of terrorizing the civilian population. ” and warning that “threatening a war crime could itself violate international humanitarian law.”.
In the wake of the clip and the rapid wave of reaction, the central dispute is no longer just whether Trump’s claims are accurate—it’s how his words may be understood and what his critics believe they signal for the country and beyond.

So now we’re diagnosing him off a video? Feels like politics as usual.
I saw the clip floating around and honestly it’s not even that crazy. He talks big, that’s what he does. Calling him “demented” seems like a reach though, unless they can prove he was lying.
Wait did Xi really say anything? Because I swear I heard that he said it on one of those “perfect calls” or whatever. If the audio doesn’t exist, then yeah he’s just making stuff up like the article says. Also the Iran part… why are we even trusting his “we won’t bomb” talk.
This is why I can’t stand either side. They act like one resurfaced video means he’s demented, but then Democrats want removal without doing anything. Plus the “praise the military” thing sounds like bragging, but like… Presidents always embellish. Jamie Raskin writing letters isn’t gonna magically verify anything.
