Delta tightens Sky Club access—here’s how to enter

Delta Sky Club access has been tightened for some travelers as the airline works to reduce crowding and lines. The good news: access is still available through eligible Delta Reserve cards, Medallion and elite benefits, Delta partner rules, premium-cabin ticke
Delta’s Sky Club has long been a quiet pre-flight refuge. But for some travelers, the doors haven’t opened as easily lately.
Delta Air Lines is modernizing and expanding its Sky Club network—and at the same time. it has implemented changes intended to limit access for some travelers in an effort to reduce crowding and lines. The result is a lounge access puzzle: if you know which rules apply to your ticket. status. or card. you still may get in.
One straightforward route is a Delta-branded credit card that includes Sky Club access. With eligible cards, each visit includes 24 hours of access from the first use. That means one visit can cover Sky Club locations and “Grab and Go” locations at multiple airports within the same 24-hour window. But the details matter. If you use a Grab and Go location. you can’t use another Grab and Go location or a Sky Club at the same airport for three hours. and Grab and Go “access” doesn’t include lounge entry.
The Delta Reserve Amex is one example of a card that can provide entry. New cardmembers can earn up to 125. 000 bonus miles: 100. 000 bonus miles after spending $6. 000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. plus an additional 25. 000 bonus miles after spending $3. 000 on purchases ($9. 000 total) in the first six months of card membership. For those preferring a business option. new Delta Reserve Business Amex Card members can earn 125. 000 bonus miles after spending $15. 000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership.
There’s also a cost when visits run out. If you run out of eligible visits. eligible Amex cardholders can buy additional Sky Club visits for $50 each or Grab and Go visits for $25 each. Another escape hatch exists for spenders: you can earn unlimited Sky Club visits through the end of the following Medallion year (Jan. 31) if you spend $75,000 or more on one of the eligible cards during a calendar year. After hitting those spending requirements. unlimited visits can be used for the rest of the calendar year. the following year. and the first month of the following year.
Delta’s updated rules come with restrictions that can catch travelers off guard. You cannot access Sky Clubs when traveling on a basic economy fare. You also won’t get access until within three hours of your flight’s scheduled departure time—unless you are on an eligible arriving flight.
Access is not automatically transferable to companions either. The cards provide Delta Sky Club access to the cardmember, with a separate option to bring guests. Travelers can pay $50 per person. or use 5. 000 SkyMiles per visit ($25 per person or 2. 500 SkyMiles for Grab and Go locations). to bring up to two guests or immediate family members. defined as a spouse or domestic partner and children under 21.
For those with certain Delta Reserve cards, there are also guest passes. Basic cardmembers of the Delta Reserve and the Delta Reserve Business get four one-time guest passes each program year to bring guests to Delta Sky Clubs, with a limit of two guest passes per visit.
Delta’s card access rules stretch beyond Delta-marketed flights as well. If you have the Delta Reserve or the Delta Reserve Business and travel on a Delta partner airline flight not marketed or operated by Delta. you can pay $50 per visit for Delta Sky Club access ($25 per visit for Grab and Go locations).
Credit cards aren’t the only way in. Delta Sky Club membership is another option, with two types. An individual membership costs $695 for one year or 69,500 SkyMiles. An executive membership costs $1,495 for one year or 149,500 SkyMiles.
Membership access depends on ticket type. These memberships provide Sky Club access when flying Delta or select partners, as long as you’re not flying on a basic economy ticket.
The member access rules differ by membership level. With an individual membership. only the member can enter the Sky Club. but the member can pay $50 or 5. 000 miles per guest. per visit ($25 or 2. 500 miles per guest. per visit for Grab and Go locations) for up to two guests or immediate family members. An executive membership is designed for frequent travelers who bring people along: it allows up to two guests or immediate family members for free.
Single-visit passes are also part of the story, but with a clear change. Sales of single-visit passes to Delta Sky Clubs are currently suspended. Travelers with existing passes can still redeem them, subject to capacity restrictions.
Elite status can also unlock access, though the path depends on what kind of benefit you hold. Diamond Medallion members can select Sky Club access as a Choice Benefit each Medallion year. Choice Benefits can provide access through Delta Sky Club individual membership (Diamond Medallion members can obtain this benefit with two Choice Benefit selections) or Delta Sky Club executive membership (obtained with three Choice Benefit selections).
Delta Diamond. Platinum. and Gold Medallion members—and up to one guest traveling in the same cabin—can access Sky Club lounges when traveling in specific premium situations: Delta Premium Select internationally (excluding the Caribbean). Delta First to Canada. Mexico. or Central America (or an equivalent cabin operated by a partner airline on this route). and Delta One (or an equivalent cabin on a flight operated by a Delta partner).
SkyTeam Elite Plus members from another airline have a limited access rule as well. They can access Delta Sky Club lounges with up to one guest before traveling on an international SkyTeam flight (excluding flights between the U.S. and the Caribbean) or on a domestic SkyTeam flight connecting to or from an international SkyTeam flight.
Some airlines’ elite programs also tie into Delta Sky Club access. LATAM: LATAM Pass Black Signature. Black. or Platinum members (and up to one guest) get Delta Sky Club access when traveling on or connecting to a same-day international flight operated by Delta or LATAM. WestJet: WestJet Rewards Gold and Platinum members (and up to one guest) get Delta Sky Club access when traveling on a same-day transborder flight between the U.S. and Canada operated by Delta or WestJet.
For travelers buying premium cabins, the rules can be simpler. Both domestic and international Delta One passengers get Sky Club lounge access regardless of elite status or membership. The same goes for anyone flying on a same-day international first-class or business-class ticket on another SkyTeam-operated flight. though you must be confirmed in business class or first class for every segment of your journey.
Even if you’re on a domestic Delta flight that connects to or from a same-day international Delta One flight, you can enter the club. But flights between the U.S. and the Caribbean aren’t considered international for lounge access purposes.
Delta also partners with two other airlines to provide Sky Club access to premium cabin passengers without complimentary guests. LATAM: business-class passengers can access Sky Club lounges with same-day international travel or with a connection to or from an international flight operated by Delta or LATAM. WestJet: business-class passengers can access Sky Club lounges with same-day international travel or with a connection to or from an international flight operated by Delta or WestJet.
The practical takeaway for travelers is straightforward: as Delta tightens access rules—especially around basic economy and timing—the door still opens for many people who plan their entry route in advance. whether that’s through an eligible Delta Reserve card. Medallion benefits. premium-cabin tickets. partner airline rules. or an outright membership. For anyone who regularly flies Delta—or spends time in a Delta hub city—knowing which lane you’re in can be the difference between arriving at the gate with time to spare. and arriving at the door just to find it closed.
