Delta 1966 lands safely at JFK after tire reports

Emergency crews responded to reports of flat front tires on Delta Flight 1966 arriving at JFK, and the plane landed safely. FDNY officials say there were no injuries and the aircraft was escorted to Terminal 4 Gate A14 for a tire replacement after damage to on

For a brief stretch before touchdown at John F. Kennedy Airport, the concern wasn’t just about delays or paperwork—it was about whether a problem with the plane could stay small. FDNY officials say emergency crews were called after reports that an inbound Delta aircraft had flat front tires.

Delta Flight 1966 from San Juan landed safely at JFK. The plane was then escorted to Terminal 4 Gate A14, where crews could address the issue before the aircraft moved further.

FDNY officials said 46 units and 141 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. They said there were no injuries, and the situation was placed under control just after 5 p.m.

Delta later confirmed in a statement that there was “some damage to one tire, but not a major situation.” The airline said its maintenance team determined the aircraft was suitable to continue taxiing over to the gate for the tire replacement rather than having to do so on the taxiway.

On the inbound flight, 170 customers were on board. With the crews on the ground and the aircraft kept within the controlled response timeline, the focus quickly shifted from the landing itself to the replacement that would bring the plane back into normal operation.
