DC readies Pride Month: nine weekends, parades, parties

From a tour at Historic Congressional Cemetery to Echostage dance nights and the Capital Pride Parade, Washington, D.C. is gearing up for a packed Pride Month calendar in June—plus family events, waterfront festivities, and a free outdoor concert.

Washington, D.C. is leaning into Pride Month in full color this June, with celebrations running from neighborhood block parties to the Capital Pride Parade and a waterfront event that draws a crowd.

For anyone planning a weekend—or building an entire month around it—here’s a look at some of the can’t-miss events being scheduled across the District, laid out in chronological order.

On Sunday, June 7, Historic Congressional Cemetery will host a tour of the cemetery’s dedicated LGBTQ+ section. The tour costs roughly $11 and runs rain or shine.

If you’re looking for another walking option later in the month, the Beyond the Closet Walking Tour is also listed as a consideration.

Saturday, June 13 brings Pride on the Pier, an all-ages event hosted by The Washington Blade in partnership with The Wharf. It’s free to attend, though VIP packages are available for those who want more.

Friday, June 19 is set for RIOT!, an Echostage dance party for ages 18 and up. The lineup includes Bob The Drag Queen, who will perform a special DJ set. Ticket prices start at $39.

The next day. Saturday. June 20. the Capital Pride Alliance’s official main event is “KINETIC: Toyland. ” also at Echostage for ages 18 and up. Live DJs will be spinning alongside a performance by drag superstar Alaska. the “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 2 winner. Tickets start at approximately $65 per person.

Also on Saturday, June 20, ELIX-Her opens at Decades D.C. Described as a “fully immersive, multiroom experience,” it celebrates women across all identities, cultures and communities. ELIX-Her is for ages 21 and over. General admission tickets are $35 at the door, while preorders begin at $20.

June 20 is also the day the District’s Pride celebrations expand across multiple neighborhoods. The annual Capital Pride Parade runs on Saturday, June 20, stretching across several Northwest D.C. neighborhoods, including Shaw, Logan Circle, Downtown and Penn Quarter. While the parade is free to attend. spectators can buy front-row seats on the grandstand bleachers at Franklin Park. with single tickets starting at $40.

That same day, the 17th Street Pride Block Party takes place in D.C.’s Dupont Circle neighborhood. The annual party honors D.C.’s “Gayborhood” with local food, an adult beverage garden, and Pride Month activities that include drag performances and live DJ’s.

For families, there’s the Capital Pride Family Fun Festival at Stead Park on Saturday, June 20. Children can enjoy games, crafts, glitter tattoos, story time and an inflatable obstacle course.

The Pride weekend continues on Sunday. June 21 with the Capital Pride Festival. an all-day free event featuring hundreds of vibrant exhibitors. skilled artisans. and delicious food and beverage gardens. Along Pennsylvania Avenue NW, attendees can expect multiple stages with multicultural and multilingual performances.

Later that day, the Capital Pride Concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 21 at 3rd Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Entry is free, but registration is required for a wristband. This year’s concert lineup includes Maren Morris, Leikeli47 and Lisa Lisa, among others. Guests can also pay for tickets to access the pit upfront at the Capitol Stage or opt for VIP treatment with a private bar and a view of backstage.

For people trying to fit in as much as possible, the Capital Pride Alliance’s website is listed as the place to check for additional events. The Capital Pride Alliance also sells General and VIP packages for those who want access to a broader set of offerings.
