David Faustino thought the reboot was finally in motion—so much so that he “signed” his deal.

The 52-year-old actor shared that Married … with Children came “surprisingly ‘close’” to happening. telling Us Weekly on Wednesday. June 10. ahead of his live event with Bundy Club and Ed O’Neill. O’Neill, 80, famously played Al Bundy, and Faustino says the plan was built around a “Bud Bundy” storyline.

“All of the cast was very supportive,” Faustino said. “It was built around a Bud Bundy kind of story line, and they were also supportive. They agreed to come on as recurring characters. They wouldn’t be in it all the time. They’d be recurring characters, and Sony — who owns the show — was just completely ready.”.

Faustino also said the show’s original creator, Michael Moye, even flew into Los Angeles to work on a script.

But the momentum didn’t last. Faustino said the project ran into a “speed bump” when someone hit the brakes over concerns the storyline would drift too far from the original series.

“There is a person who I won’t name — not a cast member — who had decided that … they wanted to hold on to what the show was, and didn’t ever want to let any other version ever go out,” Faustino claimed.

For him, the result was disappointing. He believes a Bud-centered reboot would have been “a blast,” and he doesn’t hide that frustration.

“We all would have had fun,” he said. “But quite honestly. when the show ended. it was sort of a cold business decision in that the 11th season was happening. Toward the end of it, FOX didn’t know if they wanted to renew or not. They were walking the line. They couldn’t make up their minds, and at the 11th hour, they decided to cancel it.”.

Faustino added that he understands the move was business. but he still wanted the reboot to feel like a treat for fans—new and old—who stuck with Married … with Children during its run starring Christina Applegate as Kelly Bundy. Katey Sagal as Peggy Bundy. and Amanda Bearse as family neighbor Marcy D’Arcy.

Now, the conversation shifts from what almost was to what’s happening next. The Bundy Club announced that Faustino will join O’Neill for a special live event in front of a dedicated fan audience on Thursday, June 11, at 9 p.m. ET.

The show will be available via Zoom, with memories from Married … with Children, behind-the-scenes stories, and “never-before-heard fun facts.” Faustino said fans will get “the real deal” from himself and his team, plus posts featuring things people have never seen before.

“The kicker is the bi-weekly Zoom parties had the coexecutive producer writer. We had Amanda Bearse, who played Marcy, and now we have a big deal, which is Ed,” he teased. He also pointed out that O’Neill doesn’t do many events like this. “The fans are super excited because now they’ll get to be in on a somewhat intimate conversation. but they’ll get to see us in a completely different light than they’ve really seen us before.”.

Tickets for O’Neil and Furstino’s reunion are available online now.

The near-reboot story and the live event land on the same emotional note: a version of the Bundy world that could’ve expanded—but didn’t. Still, on June 11 at 9 p.m. ET. fans get something close to the feeling anyway. with Ed O’Neill and David Faustino returning for a conversation designed for the people who never let go.
