After Ryan Hurst was seriously injured during the filming of the God of War TV show, Dave Bautista was announced to replace him and take on the role of Kratos. Now, the Guardians of the Galaxy star and former professional wrestler has shared his training for the role.

Posting on Instagram, Bautista captioned the video “3rd week in to weight training again. 2 more months to get to where I need to be. Like ridin a bike! LFG!” This indicates there are around two months before God of War filming will recommence.

After bulking up to play Leonard in M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, Bautista lost most of the weight he put on. However, it seems he’s pivoting back in order to play Kratos in the upcoming Amazon adaptation, much like Ryan Hurst did prior to his injury.

Previously, there were reports that production would resume in mid-October, but given Bautista’s Instagram caption, it seems like that’s late October or early November.

Alongside Bautista, the TV show cast will star Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, and Callum Vinson as Atreus, among many others. The adaptation follows some of the events of 2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok, telling the story of father and son Kratos and Atreus.

Prime Video is also making the live-action Tomb Raider TV show starring Sophie Turner, although production was also temporarily halted earlier this year following Turner’s on-set injury.
