Dana White Condemns Fighter’s Michelle Obama Comment

UFC CEO Dana White said he is “completely against saying nasty and false things” after fighter Josh Hokit shouted that Michelle Obama “is a man” during UFC Freedom 250 on the White House South Lawn. White said the remark crossed a line for him even as he ackno
When UFC Freedom 250 ended and Josh Hokit stepped out of his win, it should have been about the fight. Instead, it was the sentence he shouted from the ring that has kept spreading through Washington: “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”
The moment landed during Sunday night’s UFC event held on the White House South Lawn. After Hokit won his round. he gave an on-camera interview from the ring. praising President Donald Trump for hosting the show and shouting out his “lord and savior Jesus Christ.” Then. just as quickly. he turned to Michelle Obama.
Dana White, the UFC president and CEO, did not defend Hokit’s comment. In a text message to Time magazine. White said. “I understand that the Obama’s are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families.” White also tied his reaction to his broader views on speech. saying. “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”.
President Donald J. Trump has yet to publicly comment on what happened. and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Steven Cheung. a White House spokesperson. dodged a question from CNN about the controversial moment. saying Hokit “had a great win last night. He showed toughness and the ability to pressure his opponent both on his feet and on the ground.”.
The remark also drew its own wave of takes from public figures outside the UFC. Dan Bongino. who served as the deputy director of the FBI from March 2025 to January 2026. told TMZ that Hokit’s comment was “hilarious.” Bongino said. “It was probably the most unexpected and unintentionally hilarious moment of the night.”.
What makes the exchange more than just a trash-talking clip is the history around the Obamas. The Obamas have long been the target of racist and sexist attacks. In February, Trump shared a racist video depicting former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes, then deleted it. Barack Obama later said in an interview that “it’s important to recognize that the majority of the American people find this behavior deeply troubling.”.
Michelle Obama, meanwhile, has spent years moving carefully through public life. Since her husband’s tenure as president. she has stepped back from public view. attending a few high-profile events alongside other living former first ladies. In 2025. she explained that she has been trying to make her own decisions without being forced into a storyline others write for her.
She said. “People were ― they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself. that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing. ” adding. “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself. right?. But that’s what society does to us. We start actually finally going, ‘What am I doing?. Who am I doing this for?’” She continued. “And if it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do. then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”.
For Dana White, the central question isn’t whether free speech exists in the UFC ecosystem. It’s whether a fighter should be using someone’s family—especially someone as publicly visible as Michelle Obama—as the punchline. White’s message makes that boundary plain: he can live with controversy. he said. but not with “nasty and false things.”.

Wild how UFC turns into politics now.
Dana White saying “free speech” but also “nasty and false” like… so which one is it? They’re all gonna say stuff for attention.
Wait I thought Michelle Obama was always a man? like I’m not even trying to be funny, but people been saying weird stuff online for years. Either way Dana should focus on banning the religious shouting too, not just that.
Honestly if Trump hosted it then of course someone yells that from the ring. Cheung dodging the question tells me everything. Dana White “completely against nasty and false things” is kinda convenient when it’s not his own guy doing it though. Also “Freedom 250” sounds like a totally normal place to scream about a First Lady’s gender… sure.
