Dak Prescott backs George Pickens after franchise tag
Dak Prescott says he and George Pickens have done “as much as needed,” backing the receiver after Pickens signed his franchise tag.
Dak Prescott believes George Pickens has everything he needs to be ready for the season, even as the wide receiver continues to weigh his next move amid the franchise tag.
Prescott said he told Pickens earlier this year to “bet on yourself” when he was tagged, and that Pickens has followed that advice. The Cowboys did not indicate they plan to pursue a long-term contract extension with the wideout this offseason, even though Pickens chose to sign the franchise tag.
What that means for the team’s program is straightforward. Pickens has not joined the voluntary portions of Dallas’ offseason work. Prescott, speaking during the club’s charity home run derby on Thursday, dismissed any concern about the impact on preparation.
“We’ve worked as much as needed,” Prescott said on the Cowboys’ website.. “I’ve just showed George my support.. The guy that I know George is. obviously he signed the tag. so when he has to be there and ready to play. he’s going to be there.. He’s a hell of a talent.. We’ve thrown this offseason. so I’m comfortable with where he’s at and I’m excited for when he can get in the building and get rolling.”
Dallas’ only mandatory offseason activity is its minicamp in mid-June. Pickens may not arrive until then, but Prescott made clear he expects no disruption once he’s back with the team.
Prescott’s message was simple: the partnership has already been built around their own work this offseason, and once Pickens is on site, he should quickly be able to take his spot with the group.

Bet on yourself sounds nice but the franchise tag always feels like a trap lol
So Pickens didn’t go to voluntary stuff right? Dak says it’s fine but I don’t buy it. If he’s not in the building, how does he just magically be ready.
Wait I thought franchise tag means he can’t negotiate at all, so why is he “weighing his next move”? Also Dak says “we’ve thrown this offseason” like that’s the same as practice. Sounds like PR talk.
Dak always says the right thing, but Dallas not extending him this offseason is gonna be awkward. Like if he misses minicamp until June… is that even really “as much as needed”? I feel like they’re acting chill while everybody panics behind the scenes.
