Dáithí Ó Sé turns 50 and keeps it low-key

Dáithí Ó Sé is celebrating a milestone birthday today as he turns 50, but just how is he going to celebrate the occasion? The beloved RTE presenter has just finished filming the Today Show for the summer, and has previously spoken about how he is looking forward to spending some quality time with his family over the next few months before the Rose of Tralee kicks off in August. He started his special birthday by opening some cards and sharing a lovely picture of the
thoughtful custom card his twelve-year-old son, Ógie, made for him. The front of the card reads “Happy 50th Birthday Dad” and is surrounded by a collage of pictures of Dáithí and Ógie from over the years. From holiday snaps to the pair on horseback, there are plenty of happy memories on show, with Dáithí calling it the “Best present ever”. His wife, Rita, also took a cheeky snap of Dáithí this morning, wearing a funny t-shirt that says: “Aged to Perfection Vintage 1976 100% Original
Parts”. She captioned the pic: “Big bday today, 5-0. Happy Birthday”. When asked how he plans to mark his birthday, the presenter said he won’t do anything too ‘over the top’ and would prefer a low-key celebration with a few friends. “I do not really know how I feel about it, to be honest. I would like to get a few people together at some stage, have a few pints and stuff like that, but nothing too over the top.” He told Extra.ie. He also
reminisced on his father’s 50th birthday, saying: “When my dad was 50, I was probably around 16. There was no cake for him, no card, nothing. I actually do not think we even said happy birthday. I felt really bad about it going back.” He previously told the RTE Guide that he can see himself turning into his dad at times. “I see myself turning into my dad as well. I’m going around the house at nighttime turning off all the lights which was something
my dad used to do. “Those things that used to irritate my dad also irritate me. Like I was driving the other day, and this person did something, and I was like ‘that fecking gobshite’, only one step away from hooting the horn like my father used to do.” Want to see more of the stories you love from RSVP ?
