Dad pays $7,440 for World Cup seats—then they move

FIFA moved – A father who bought four front-row FIFA World Cup tickets for Boston’s Gillette Stadium says he discovered his seats were reassigned without notice—then later received a second reassignment back near the pitch.

For one father. the dream started with a map of seats and a plan built around his 11-year-old son’s love of soccer. It ended with an online check that showed something had been changed—weeks after he’d paid $7. 440 for “front-row” tickets and received confirmation with the exact sections. row. and seat numbers he selected.

He asked not to be named. He told MISRYOUM USA News that he purchased four Front Category 1 tickets for Match 74. a Round of 32 game at Gillette Stadium in Boston on June 29 during FIFA’s Last-Minute Sales Phase. FIFA’s ticketing process in that phase is described as first-come. first-served rather than via ballot or lottery. allowing customers to choose an available match and select specific seats before buying instantly.

The father said he bought the tickets for a reason that felt personal, not transactional. His son, he said, is an “aspiring goalkeeper,” and he wanted his family to be close enough to experience the match in a way that watching at home never could.

“My plan was to take my family. including my 11-year-old son. who is one of the biggest soccer fans I know. ” he said. He described how his son spends his time—watching the EPL or La Liga when he isn’t playing. and when there isn’t a match on TV. playing FC 26 on a Nintendo Switch. To him, the World Cup isn’t just a game; it’s something he has “dreamed about experiencing in person.”.

Because of that, the father said he chose seats with care. “I specifically chose seats in a section near the corner flag—Row 1, Seats 1–4,” he said. He added that he paid a “substantial premium” to secure an unobstructed. up-close view of the action and hoped his family might even have the chance to interact with players before or after the match.

He said he paid $1,860 per ticket on April 21, totaling $7,440, and that FIFA sent a confirmation showing the exact section, row, and seat numbers he selected and purchased. For weeks, he planned the trip to Boston around those details.

Then, on June 1, he checked his tickets online.

He said FIFA had moved his seats without contacting him. “My seats had been reassigned to a different section. three sections closer to midfield. and moved from Row 1 to Row 3. ” he said. While the new seats are closer to midfield. he said the change matters because the price and the point of his purchase were the front-row experience.

“I deliberately chose front-row seats,” he said. “The entire reason I paid such a significant premium was for that front-row experience.”

What upset him most was the lack of communication. He said he wasn’t asked, wasn’t offered options, and wasn’t even told. “I wasn’t consulted, wasn’t given a choice, and wasn’t even notified,” he said. “I only discovered the change by checking my tickets myself weeks later.”

He said he emailed FIFA asking to be returned to the original seats or given comparable front-row alternatives. He also said he called FIFA’s ticketing office “multiple times” but wasn’t able to speak to a representative.

“I’m not sure what consumers are buying or what the point is of being able to select and purchase specific seats, receive confirmation, and then have them reassigned without notice,” he said.

MISRYOUM USA News reached out to FIFA for comment, and the organization did not provide a statement for publication.

After that outreach, MISRYOUM USA News understands the reassignment happened because of restricted-visibility concerns. It said a review carried out after the purchase identified that two of the seats had an obstructed view.

It remains unclear why that review took place only after tickets were sold, or why restricted views weren’t flagged during the initial purchase process. It also remains unclear why the father wasn’t notified of the change.

MISRYOUM USA News understands an internal review is ongoing at FIFA “to improve communication in future cases.”

Since then, the father said he and his family have been reassigned seats a second time—back where he wanted, closer to the pitch in front-row seats. He told MISRYOUM USA News he is now happy with the outcome and is looking forward to taking his family to the World Cup.

  1. Front-row “front category 1” my foot. If it says exact seats and then moves them, that’s basically theft, idc.

  2. Wait… he got moved away and then they moved him back near the pitch later? So it’s like… they fixed it? Sounds like a glitch or something not a big scandal.

  3. I don’t trust FIFA ticketing at all. First come first served is how they mess you up. Also $7,440 for four tickets like??? Then the online check “something changed” weeks later?? That’s why I never buy anything “instant” online, always end up in the nosebleeds even when you pick seats.
