Police stop “anti-social” convoy in Canterbury

The night began in Rangiora, where vehicles had gathered in a commercial carpark before leaving the area and headed towards Swannanoa. However, the group’s movements were monitored by police waiting with a checkpoint, Canterbury District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill said in a statement today. Officers issued around 50 infringement notices, and about 20 green and pink stickers ordering vehicles off the road. A number of people received a driver’s licence suspension for having exceeded the maximum number of demerit points, meaning they now can’t drive

for three months. “Two vehicles were also impounded for previous anti-social road user behaviour incidents,” Supt Hill said. Several green stickers were issued to the new vehicles, due to their conditions. Staff were one step ahead of the group every time, meaning they were never able to take hold of any one location, Supt Hill said. “The operation went down without a hitch, which comes down to the great planning and execution by staff and I would like to commend all those involved in their

efforts. “Police are sending a message to anyone participating in this unlawful activity – we are ready and waiting, and you can expect us to take action anywhere, anytime.” – Allied Media
