Conor McGregor Says Dry Ice Caused Wet Floor Before Major Injury at UFC 329, Calls for No Contest

Conor McGregor is calling for his loss against Max Holloway at UFC 329 to be overturned to a no contest.

In a post on Instagram, McGregor said the fog machine used during his walkout caused the ring surface inside the octagon to be wet and resulted in him blowing out his knee:

“The white orange and green machine,” he wrote. “Mosying on back to the office, up the office! Sorry I’m late but the dry ice has the cage floor wet it’s a no contest now chop chop for the champ champ I’ll see ya’s next year 100%.”

McGregor also included clips from the fight showing him slipping on the surface. The Notorious One lost via TKO when the referee stopped the match after just 69 seconds due to a knee injury he suffered going for a kick in the opening moments of the contest.

This isn’t the first time McGregor has suggested the result should be deemed a no contest. He wrote in an Instagram Story posted July 15 (h/t CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri), “The fight should be a no contest and all bets returned.”

There is virtually no recourse for McGregor to get the result overturned. Mahjouri noted the official Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts states a no contest is ruled when a “contestant is prematurely stopped due to accidental injury and a sufficient amount of time has not been completed to render a decision via the scorecards.”

If the surface was as slippery as McGregor claims, Holloway would also seem to have been impacted by it. It also raises the question of why he waited three weeks after the bout to bring it up when too much time has passed for the Nevada Stae Athletic Commission to make a judgement that could overturn the result.

McGregor revealed the injuries he suffered were a torn ACL and meniscus. He has hinted at a potential “Last Dance” fight in 2027 when he is cleared to compete again.
