Commanders’ Laremy Tunsil requires surgery after suffering torn triceps at practice

The Washington Commanders received a Saturday morning scare involving tackle Laremy Tunsil. He’ll now need surgery amid his NFL Injury. The past first rounder rises as the latest NFL Training Camp loss with torn triceps.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo shared that the five-time Pro Bowler Tunsil sustained the injury during a one-on-one drill. 

“He’ll likely require surgery and will miss at least a significant portion of the regular season,” Garafolo posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Tunsil engaged in a blocking session with edge rusher Odafe Oweh, per Garafolo. He got seen heading inside a medical tent during the practice. Reserve tackle Andrew Wylie took over from there for the rest of the practice.

Tunsil’s exit becomes a huge blow for a Washington team aiming for redemption in 2026. The franchise watched star quarterback Jayden Daniels miss the end of the 2025 season with a dislocated left elbow (non-throwing area). He also sustained a left knee and hamstring sprain earlier in the season. Daniels missed a total of 10 games.

Tunsil rose as a massive NFL Free Agency get for Washington ahead of the 2025 season. He earned 14 starts at tackle but he and the Commanders endured a downtrodden 5-12 season. And that mark arrived one year after making an NFC title game run. Tunsil signed a massive $60.2 million extension in March 2026. 

Now it appears Wylie must step in to handle the blindside duties for Daniels moving forward. Although Tunsil isn’t officially ruled out for the 2026 campaign yet.

Still, Washington’s tackle room officially gets thinner and right before roster cuts occur later in August.
