Comedian Michael Che roasts LeBron James during SNL Weekend Update segment
LeBron James found himself at the receiving end of a jab from Michael Che during this weekend’s edition of Saturday Night Live.
James has not only been one of the biggest athletes in the world for the last two decades, but also a massive pop culture figure in the United States.
His star power is so massive that even a benign act of showing up to the Philadelphia 76ers’ NBA Media Day has become the foundation for jokes.
Michael Che takes a dig at LeBron James’ age during SNL Weekend Update
As part of their long-running Weekend Update segment, comedians Michael Che and Colin Jost wrap up the happenings of the week with some lighthearted humour.
One of the events they recapped was LeBron James’ first appearance as a Philadelphia 76ers player, with Che poking fun at the star’s longevity.
“LeBron James attended his first press conference as a 76-year-old.”
Che was clearly poking fun at James’ age, as he is currently the oldest player in the NBA and one of the oldest players in the history of the NBA.
James turns 42 this December and is expected to play a smaller role on the Philadelphia 76ers behind their All-Star trio of Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey.
The 22-time NBA All-Star signed a two-year, $8 million veteran minimum contract with the 76ers after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.
Following eight years in the West, James is back in the Eastern Conference and looking to topple the reigning NBA champions, the New York Knicks.
Even with how great he has been throughout his career, few expected James to still be an active player at this stage of his life.
Most NBA players, even at their best, start to decline rapidly once they cross the age of 35. However, LeBron is still considered one of the best players in the NBA, even in his 40s.
While there have been former All-Star and All-NBA players to play into their 40s, with Vince Carter perhaps being the most prominent example, no player has been as good at this age as James is right now.
