Collin Gosselin readies book to set record straight

Collin Gosselin is set to publish “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” describing growing up under constant public attention and saying key parts of his life were “deliberately kept hidden.”
Collin Gosselin is done letting other people define his childhood.
The 21-year-old—known to millions from TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8—has a new book coming. titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. and he says the pages are meant to finally tell what he believes was left out. The former reality star is now sharing the cover as his pre-order launch begins.
“My life was always broadcast to millions. but what was actually happening in my life was never shown — in fact. much of it was deliberately kept hidden. ” Gosselin wrote in a statement shared with Us Weekly. He said, “For years, other people told my story through headlines, television episodes and public speculation.”.
He ties the book directly to the moment he wants to claim back. “Now, finally, I’m sharing what was really happening behind the scenes,” he said. In his description of what readers will find, he frames the book as “truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced.”
Collin appeared alongside his seven siblings and parents, Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin, on Jon & Kate Plus 8 through much of his toddlerhood and adolescence. Even after his parents divorced in 2009, he remained on television through the show’s run.
He later moved in with his father full time and began speaking out about alleged abuse he said he experienced from his mother. Kate Gosselin’s lawyer, in a 2024 interview with Fox News, said she would not be responding to the allegations.
In the book. Gosselin is expected to share new details about his life once cameras stopped rolling—particularly from a period when he says he was still being controlled. even as the public watched. In the publisher’s teaser. In the Shadow of Eight is described as Collin “finally sharing the truth about being held down. the basement cell where he was hidden for years and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an 11-year-old boy.” The publisher also calls it “a reckoning with the dark side of fame. ” pointing to “the systems. the entourage. and the institutions that allowed one boy to be erased.”.
The situation isn’t just about the past. Collin is estranged from his mom and many of his siblings who remain close to Kate. and he has been publicly signaling that break. In an August 2025 TikTok video, he explained why he has kept his distance from social media. “As you can see, I don’t post on Instagram, I don’t post on TikTok much,” he said. “I’m still getting in the groove of things. but. you know. I’ve realized I love to share my videos with you guys.”.
He then addressed his family directly: “Unfortunately, I don’t talk to my siblings, and I very much wish that we did and that they knew who I actually was because we don’t know each other at all.”
The book’s timing comes as Collin also tries to reintroduce his voice after years of being watched from the outside. Since stepping away from reality TV, he has kept his life off social media and away from the public eye.
On Monday, October 13, In the Shadow of Eight is expected to be available for readers to pre-order online now and eventually read in full, with Collin using the release as a hard reset: a direct account of his childhood, and an insistence that what the public saw was only part of the story.

Wait so is this like an expose or just vibes? I’m confused.
Sounds like he’s trying to set the record straight but like… record of what exactly? Reality TV always edits stuff out anyway.
I mean, if he was abused that’s awful, but I don’t automatically trust somebody who was literally on TV for years. Also I saw something where people said Kate’s lawyer already shut it down? So is the book gonna be her side too or nah.
I kinda feel bad for him, but at the same time this family has been in cameras so long it’s like… what was “hidden” really? I heard rumors that the divorce made everything worse and now he’s cashing in with a book called “surviving the reality” which is hilarious and sad. I’m not saying it’s fake, I just don’t get how the headline always comes first and the truth comes later, you know?
