Happy Week 2, folks.
We’ll be here all day covering every ounce of the excitement, but here are some of the particularly interesting storylines we’re keeping an eye on.
1. Marty Whims II will lead Akron’s offense for the first series vs. Robert Morris
You may be asking a legit question: “Who is Marty Whims II?”
Well, great question.
Marty Whims II is the winner of Akron’s Offensive Coordinator of the Game promotion. He spent the week designing a 20-play script alongside Zips head coach Joe Moorhead and will hold the reins to begin today’s game, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Nick Saban had some advice for Whims on this morning’s “College GameDay” broadcast:
1. Get the call in early
2. Stay ahead of the sticks — run the ball
3. Don’t get cute… but if you do, “throw a damn flea flicker”

2. No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas is the headliner, but don’t forget about No. 11 Oklahoma at Michigan.
Michigan is coming off a controversial 13-12 win over Western Michigan last weekend. Despite the victory, the Wolverines fell out of the AP Top 25 poll.
Bryce Underwood went 12-of-22 for 170 yards, a touchdown and an interception, along with 47 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Michigan escaped on a Hail Mary after officials put one second back on the clock.

All in all, a lot is riding on Underwood’s shoulders.
Tommy Carr, the younger brother of Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr, sits behind Underwood on Michigan’s depth chart. If Underwood doesn’t prove himself to Kyle Whittingham, we might see some reps with Carr under center.
3. Memphis-Boise State winner could be early frontrunner for the Group of Six’s playoff spot.
Memphis has already knocked off UNLV 27-21 in Week 0, while Boise State is looking to bounce back after barely falling to No. 6 Oregon, 34-27.
The winner of today’s showdown could have an early lead on the Group of Six bid, with the loser falling behind the sticks. We could very well have a playoff elimination game in September.
