Cole Hauser battled 106-degree heat to gain Rip’s weight

106-degree Texas – Cole Hauser says the Texas heat made it tough to keep on the 25 pounds he usually gains for Rip while filming “Dutton Ranch,” which moves Beth and Rip from Montana to Rio Paloma. The production also faced an ice-storm shutdown after wrapping in March.
The first week of shooting “Dutton Ranch” in Texas started with a kind of weather that doesn’t just bother the schedule—it attacks the body.
Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, remembered the heat when filming began in Rio Paloma. He told PEOPLE he was “trying to keep weight on. ” adding that he “usually put[s] on about 25 pounds [to play Rip]” but found it “hard to keep it on.” He described it on the red carpet at the Dutton Ranch premiere in New York City. saying. “I was sweating it out.”.
Director Christina Alexandra Voros put the temperature on the record: filming began when it was “around 106 degrees for the first week that we were shooting.” And the production didn’t only have to endure Texas summer—after they finished the show in March. they “got shut down for four days because of an ice storm.” Voros said the crew and cast had “every weather emoji over the course of shooting. ” and while they “got through all of it. ” she said. “it wasn’t easy.”.
For “Dutton Ranch,” the weather is more than a behind-the-scenes detail. The show’s move from Yellowstone’s Montana world to Rio Paloma. Texas. forces both characters—and the people around them—into unfamiliar territory. Hauser previously told PEOPLE that “It’s like going to the moon for these characters. ” explaining that Rip and Beth “don’t know the land or the people or the environment.”.
Beth and Rip also shift in power and position. Reilly described them as going from being “the top dogs” to “the strangers.” The local residents feel that collision too, with Reilly adding, “They don’t know who these guys are. They don’t know what they’re dealing with.”
The leap comes with another change for Hauser and Reilly: executive producer roles. Hauser said it meant “more responsibility. ” telling PEOPLE. “which I think Kelly and I took on and enjoyed. for the most part.” He said the work went into the continuation of the series with Christina Alexandra Voros. Chad Feehan. and “everybody else that was part of it.”.
