US pop star Rodrigo performed the track When A Good Man Cries, which features on CMAT’s third studio

album EURO COUNTRY, during a Live Lounge session recording today. Before performing the cover, Rodrigo said that she had only recently discovered CMAT’s music and describing her as “such an incredible, unique songwriter”. “I think that song is epic, and me and my dad had so much fun putting it together too,” she said. Advertisement “It’s kind of twangy and country, and the lyrics are super, super awesome and unique.” Rodrigo added, adding that she hoped she had done the track justice. The 23-year-old, who

is due to release her third album later this month, also praised CMAT on air, calling her “a force” and saying “nobody writes songs like her right now”. Rodrigo’s cover has already amassed more than 125,000 likes on TikTok and 100,000 likes on Instagram. CMAT, who played St Anne’s Park in Dublin on Saturday, responded on Instagram shortly afterwards to Rodrigo’s cover, joking: “she sang it better than me so now I’m toast”, before extending the “pints?” invitation to Rodrigo. CMAT, a Dunboyne native who

recently won an Ivor Novello award, also shared a video of herself reacting to Rodrigo’s cover, cheering when the US singer reached the line mentioning “Dunboyne”. The cover is the latest in a string of Irish nods from Rodrigo, who has previously covered Irish songs during live performances in Dublin. She covered Sinéad O’Connor’s version of Prince song Nothing Compares 2 U at her sold-out Fairview Park gig in 2022, and Fontaines D.C.’s I Love You at her Marlay Park gig last summer. Readers like
