Indiana Fever’s 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday felt like a reset button—especially after a two-game skid that left the team at 3-4 before the game. With the victory. the Fever improved to 5-4. and the mood around Clark and company shifted quickly away from the headlines.
The timing mattered because the WNBA news cycle had been dominated by a sideline spat between Caitlin Clark and Fever coach Stephanie White. But when Clark and White were asked to address the moment, neither treated it as something bigger than basketball.
Clark said their heated exchange was simply part of their competitive nature, adding that she believes their relationship is great. She pointed to a sign that was hard to miss: Clark and White shared a hug in the third quarter against the Dream.
In a video posted by ESPN’s Kareem Copeland, the two-time All-Star, 24, then addressed the outside concern directly. “A lot of people have called and asked how I am?. I said, ‘What do you mean, I’m great!’ I did a lot of self-reflection for everybody. Look at yourself in the mirror and find ways to get better. That’s what I did,” said Clark. She also referenced a piece of advice she carries with her: “One of the best pieces of advice I ever got in life is everything’s a two-day story.”.
White. 48. echoed that stance while also lamenting what she described as a double standard in the way her altercation with Clark was being discussed. She said she’s more focused on helping the Fever climb the ladder than feeding the conversation around social media. “For us (Fever), it’s take it a day at a time. But personally, I’m doing great. I don’t really read that stuff. I don’t really read that stuff. I know everybody
can have their opinion. and people make me aware—I have to be aware of things that are going on. But I’m not sitting on Twitter or social media reading those things. ” Clark said. later adding that the opinions she cares about are tied to the people closest to the program. “Obviously. everybody’s entitled to their opinion. but I think the opinions I care about are of my teammates. people in the locker room. the
front office. the organization. my family. and my friends.”.
On the floor, Clark delivered the kind of performance that changes the tone of a season story. Against Atlanta, she finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. For the season, she is averaging 19.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.1 steals.
As the Fever moved past the noise that surrounded their sideline moment, the standings told a simple truth: the win mattered. The sideline conversation might not fade all at once, but Clark’s message was clear—she’s not worried, and she’s asking everyone else to look at the mirror too.
