Christian and Justin Combs Face Backlash Over Diddy

Christian and Justin Combs drew immediate backlash for their Father’s Day tributes to Diddy, with commenters questioning the meaning of “picking up where he left off” after viral footage and public fallout.
Christian Combs’ Father’s Day post landed online with a simple message—“HAPPY FATHER’S DAY POPS”—but the caption that followed ignited a firestorm in the comments.
On Sunday, June 21, Christian shared an Instagram video clip of throwback footage featuring him and his dad over the years. He paired it with the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There. ” then wrote a heartfelt tribute that included: “I love you and miss you more than words can explain. Thank you for every sacrifice. every lesson. every conversation. and every little thing you’ve done for me throughout my life!!. You’ve helped shape me into the man I am today, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”.
Christian added that the reunion he’s waiting for feels closer than ever. “Can’t wait until we’re back together picking up right where we left off. We’re almost at the finish line. and when that day comes. I won’t take a single moment for granted. Love you forever, Pops. You’re the best to ever do it. Happy Father’s Day. ❤️🙏🏾,” he wrote.
Justin Combs also joined in with his own Father’s Day message. Like Christian, Justin took to social media and posted a tribute featuring a plethora of photos. In his caption, Justin wrote: “I’m blessed to call you my father. You showed us what it means to dream big, work hard, and stand tall in the face of adversity. I love you!. I Can’t wait until you’re home. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. I’m proud to be your son. Happy Father’s Day 💪🏾💙.”.
But while both posts were clearly meant as family love, social media users reacted as if the timing demanded accountability.
In the comment section. Instagram user @nesha_raw41 reacted to Christian’s “picking up where he left off” line. writing. “Christian please…yo daddy don’t need to be picking up where he left off 😩😂.” @kingkobyknightsmommy143 echoed the same frustration. saying. “It was nice till he said picked up where we left off 😂😂😂.”.
Others questioned the larger message behind praising Diddy while his public controversies remain fresh. @oceanblu_404 wrote, “Where y’all left off?? Smh well that just tells me Diddy has no intention on change behavior.” @__jzaz added, “Diddler as a father aint a flex.”
Some commenters tried to narrow in on how the posts were being interpreted—as performance for the audience rather than a private family moment. Instagram user @raptureraptor23 asked. “Did he teach ya’ll the ins and outs of the freakoffs too?” @yeathatsveee replied with a similar vibe: “Lol performance for the people fr. Cause go tell him that. Not us 😂.”.
Even when commenters acknowledged the love in the posts, they questioned the choice to publicly frame it this way. @how can you be proud of this man after watching that video. ” wrote Instagram user @krystal_bluepersuasion. responding to what they saw as a mismatch between a tribute and what many consider the reality of Diddy’s behavior.
The backlash also pulled in the latest viral context around Diddy and his relationships. The conversation referenced that Diddy made headlines last month after footage surfaced of him in an apparent freakoff encounter with Daphne Joy and male escort Sly Diggler. which went viral and prompted Joy to speak out.
The posts from Christian and Justin landed amid that ongoing attention on Diddy’s public image and the consequences it has for those connected to him.
The tension running through the comments is striking: one side sees a father-son bond expressed through love and gratitude, while another side hears the phrase “picking up right where we left off” as an echo of a past that never truly ended for many viewers.
That clash also surfaced in comments that pointed to Daphne Joy’s willingness to speak. In the coverage around her, Joy opened up about seeing the tape once it surfaced online.
Roomies kept piling in with harsh takes and disbelief. @since_we_being_honest wrote, “Freakiest to ever do it!. 😭.” @breezywestsiide joked with dark humor. “On behalf of Johnsons baby oil we are proud of Diddy😂.” And @tiaraisaverage cut straight to the frustration she felt. adding. “LMAOOO i knew you’d be the son to piss me off.”.
For some, the tribute was never just about Father’s Day. It was about what people thought they were being asked to accept—and what they weren’t going to let slide.

So what do they mean “picking up where he left off” like… are we pretending nothing happened?
I didn’t even know Diddy was involved in anything but now everybody acting like it’s just family stuff. Caption language matters I guess but people are wild. Also “almost at the finish line” sounds kinda ominous.
“When that day comes” like he’s already getting out or something? I swear these posts are basically PR. But then again it could just be like Father’s Day romanticizing… idk. The internet hears one phrase and runs with it.
I mean Father’s Day tribute is sweet but why bring up the “finish line” and “can’t wait until you’re home” if you’re not talking about all the scandal/whatever. Sounds like they’re thanking him for being their dad like none of the public fallout happened. I’m confused because the headline is like backlash but the posts look normal at first glance.
