Chrissy Teigen Posts Father’s Funeral Photos, Sparks Backlash

Chrissy Teigen shared photos from inside her father Ron Teigen’s funeral on June 16, seven days after he died suddenly on June 9. The post sparked a debate online over privacy and whether the images turned grief into content—while other fans defended her right
Chrissy Teigen didn’t caption the moment. She didn’t add music. She shared photos from inside her father’s funeral anyway—and within hours, the internet was arguing about what grief is “supposed” to look like.
Teigen, 40, lost her father, Ron Teigen, suddenly on June 9. On Tuesday, June 16, the mother of four posted images on her Instagram Stories taken from inside the funeral. Among them was a photo showing Teigen with her husband. John Legend. and their eldest daughter. Luna. sitting in front of Ron Teigen’s casket.
In her Stories, Teigen did not include any text. That silence didn’t stop the comments. For some people, the photos felt like a breach of privacy.
One Facebook user accused her of using tragedy for visibility, writing: “She has to make every tragic event in her life a photo op. It’s the only way to keep herself relevant.”
Another drew a comparison to controversy involving Erika Kirk, writing that Teigen’s images “a little kirky.”
A third commenter questioned the posting itself: “This is a private moment. Why did she post this?”
And another said the photo set should have stayed off social media, writing, “I know that people in the public eye are used to being photographed all the time but something like this should be private.”
But not everyone joined the criticism.
Supporters argued that grief doesn’t follow a script. One fan wrote: “People grieve differently & not up to your expectations.”
Another defended the decision with a blunt personal point: “If I could’ve taken a photo next my dad’s casket and had a way for the whole world to know his name, know how much he mattered and was loved I definitely would’ve done it.”
The backlash arrives against the backdrop of what Teigen has already shared about her father’s death. She previously opened up about the passing in a since-deleted Instagram post. saying it started like an ordinary day: “All the same things happened. Hurried shower. Picked up stuffing from the dog toys. Answered some emails. Avoided some. Laughed with my friends and put on a pretty dress for a friend’s birthday. Took a video. How cute is this dress!”.
Then, she wrote, everything changed: “And then my dad just like…[expletive] died.”
Now, after Teigen’s June 16 funeral photos circulated, the question driving the debate isn’t only what was posted. It’s whether posting—especially for someone who lives under constant public attention—can coexist with the idea of a funeral as a private moment. For some, the images crossed a line. For others, they were proof that love and loss can be shared, even when everyone doesn’t agree on how.

It’s not like she needed to post that… let the man rest.
People keep saying grief doesn’t have a script but like… shouldn’t there be at least a line? Posting funeral pics feels kinda wild to me. Also no caption?? makes it worse somehow.
Wait so she posted the funeral like 7 days after he died? I thought they meant she posted at the actual funeral day. Like are we sure it wasn’t a different event? Either way posting casket pics to stories is super weird, idk.
Honestly I get it. If my dad was the kind of person people would care about I’d want everybody to know him too. But the internet is gonna internet, privacy or not. Some people are comparing it to that other drama like “kirk” or whatever and I’m like… why is everything a comparison. Grief content?? maybe. But also she didn’t even write anything so it’s not like it was an ad.
