2026 has not been without its ups and downs for Chris Pratt, who starred in one of the first box office bombs of the year with Mercy. Pratt features alongside Rebecca Ferguson in the sci-fi thriller, which fell well short of its $120 million break-even point, grossing only $54 million at the worldwide box office. The film has gone on to become one of the biggest streaming hits of the year on Prime Video. Pratt found box office redemption reprising his role as Mario in the first $1 billion movie of 2026, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The film was added to Peacock on August 1 following its successful box office run. Pratt is also expected (but not confirmed) to reprise his role as Star Lord in Avengers: Doomsday later this year on December 18.
Even outside his famous role as Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Pratt has become one of the biggest blockbuster stars in the world. Pratt’s role as Owen Grady in the Jurassic World movies helped make him one of the highest-grossing movie stars in the world, but as evidenced by Mercy earlier this year, not all of his movies are smash hits at the box office. Back in 2021, Pratt starred alongside Yvonne Stahovski in The Tomorrow War, the $200 million sci-fi film written by Zach Dean and directed by Chris McKay. While the movie was originally planned to be released in theaters, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the strategy, and it was ultimately dropped straight to streaming on Prime Video. All these years after it was released, The Tomorrow War is still one of the most popular movies on Prime Video in several countries.

What Is ‘The Tomorrow War’ About?
The Tomorrow War follows a former military operative named Dan Forester who has left his old life behind to spend more time with his family in retirement. When agents from the year 2051 travel back in time to reveal that the world is at war with a race of dangerous aliens, Dan and others are called into the future to fight and save humanity. It’s already been officially confirmed that a sequel to The Tomorrow War is in the works, but it’s still unclear at this time when the film will be released. Both Pratt and Strahovski are expected to return in The Tomorrow War 2.
