Child suffers life-threatening injuries as tree falls at Wayland camp

A child sustained life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning as a tree fell on them and an adult at a Wayland camp, according to local authorities.

Wayland police and firefighters responded to Camp Chickami, a YMCA day camp on Boston Post Road, shortly before 11 a.m. for a report of people struck by a tree. The child was found to have “life-threatening injuries,” while an adult was suffering from less serious injuries, officials said.

The adult was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance, while the child was taken to a landing zone at Wayland Town Hall in an ambulance, before being flown to a regional trauma center in a medical helicopter.

No further information was immediately available.
