‘Chicago P.D.’ Cast Sends off LaRoyce Hawkins After Final Episode

Chicago P.D. will be preparing to say goodbye to an original member of the series and a key member of the Intelligence unit when the NBC drama returns for its 14th season on Wednesday, October 7. We knew that LaRoyce Hawkins is only returning for a couple of episodes to wrap up Officer Kevin Atwater’s storyline, but now we know that he’s finished filming his return.

On August 14, Sheila R. Brown, the Executive Director of the CineCares Foundation at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, posted videos and photos of LaRoyce Hawkins being celebrated after wrapping filming on Chicago P.D. “Yesterday, @laroycehawkins filmed his final episode of #ChicagoPD. His hard work paid off with 13 seasons on the show,” she wrote in the caption. “He was celebrated all day (and night). We will miss Kevin Atwater! However, I can’t wait to see what unfolds next for you, my friend. Bravo!” See the photos and videos below.

Then, on August 15, Marina Squerciati shared a series of photos of the Chicago P.D. cast — and former cast members Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer, along with one of the Fire stars — “sending off one of the best,” as she wrote in the caption, tagging Hawkins. Present at the celebration were Squerciati, Hawkins, Jason Beghe, Soffer, Spiridakos, Miranda Rae Mayo, Arienne Mandi, and Benjamin Levy Aguilar. See the photos below.

It was on July 2 that it was announced that Hawkins will be leaving in Season 14, though his exact last episode has yet to be revealed; at the time, it was said he’ll be in two or three episodes, but given the timing of him wrapping filming (and when shooting began on the season), it does seem like the former will be the case.

It’s unclear how Atwater will be written out, but it does seem likely that it will be connected to the fact that he’s about to be a father with fellow officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom) and that he won’t be killed off. After all, that would leave the door open for future appearances, and we saw last season just how successful past characters returning is with Soffer and Spiridakos in the three-show crossover.

How do you think Chicago P.D. will write out Atwater? Let us know in the comments section below.
