Around 10 p.m. on June 15, Melanie U. Doyle—known as Chicago drill rapper Mello Buckzz—was pulled over on the West Side in a black 2020 Mercedes GLC SUV, and what began as a traffic stop escalated into a search that police say turned up a stolen gun.

Doyle. a South Shore resident. was in custody Tuesday after police recovered a Glock semi-automatic pistol with one live round in the chamber and an unknown number of rounds in the magazine from under the driver’s seat. She was booked into Cook County Jail on June 16. a day after her arrest. and was being held without bail. according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

Doyle appeared in court Tuesday facing a felony charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle without a FOID card. two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing. and citations for having an obstructed front windshield and transporting or carrying alcohol as a driver. according to Chicago police.

The stop happened after plainclothes police officers observed Doyle’s windshield appearing tinted and pulled her over a few blocks away at 1918 S. Rockwell St., while she was traveling east on 19th Street from Washtenaw Avenue. Court records say officers had their police identification visible when they approached.

When officers asked Doyle for her driver’s license, she reached into her purse and an officer saw what appeared to be marijuana in a small clear bag, records show. Another officer saw an open bottle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka on the front passenger-side floorboard, records showed.

Police said they asked Doyle to get out of her SUV so they could conduct a narcotics search. Records show she repeatedly refused. and after a sergeant was called to the scene. Doyle was ordered to get out of the vehicle for about 15 minutes. Records say the sergeant opened the driver’s-side door and officers removed Doyle from the driver’s seat by grabbing her left arm because she was resisting.

Before Doyle was fully escorted out of the vehicle. police records say an officer saw the barrel of a gun protruding from under the driver’s seat and recovered the Glock pistol. Doyle told officers she did not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license. and police said a records check confirmed that. Police also said a records check confirmed the vehicle belonged to Doyle but had been reported stolen out of Bedford Park.

Doyle’s name has been tied to gun violence before. She was at the center of a mass shooting last summer that left four people dead—including her boyfriend—and 14 wounded in River North outside her record-release party.

Her current case intersects with her earlier legal troubles as well. In an unrelated case in 2024, Doyle was charged with felony aggravated battery connected to an attack on another rapper. She pleaded guilty in April 2025 and was sentenced to 30 months’ probation, the Sun-Times previously reported.

  1. Wait, was this the rapper whose real name is Melanie Doyle or whatever? I feel like they always pull over Black people for tinted windshields and then it’s a whole search. Not saying she’s innocent, just seems like the system.

  2. Open Tito’s and marijuana in the car… I mean why even have a Glock under the seat unless she wanted problems. But also tinted windshield sounds like the real reason they went digging. FOID card thing is confusing too, I thought that was only for buying ammo?

  3. This reads like one of those stories where it starts as a ‘simple traffic stop’ and then suddenly there’s a stolen gun and felony charges. How is it ‘stolen’ if they just found it? Also ‘held without bail’ seems harsh for something that started with alcohol + weed. I’m not up to date on her music but drill rappers always get blamed for everything anyway.
