ChatGPT slips into PowerPoint, turning prompts into slides

A presentation used to start with a blank slide and a sinking feeling—how many hours will this take, and how good will it actually look? Now, OpenAI is trying to change that rhythm.

The company announced that ChatGPT is available in Microsoft PowerPoint. with the chatbot able to create new presentation slides and edit or update existing ones. The workflow is driven by natural-language prompts, the same way people already interact with ChatGPT. It can also pull in material from connected services such as Gmail, Outlook, or Sharepoint.

OpenAI said the PowerPoint feature is in beta. Even so, most OpenAI users can get started today, including those on the free access tier. Subscribers through the corporate-focused ChatGPT Business can also use it.

The move lands in a crowded AI-in-product race. A rival feature from Anthropic has been offered with its Claude chatbot since September. Google’s Gemini, meanwhile, integrates with Google’s Slides platform.

There’s also a familiar pattern behind the update. PowerPoint had been a bit of an outlier, even as ChatGPT had already been added to other enterprise tools—Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets among them.
