Timothée Chalamet’s latest Kalshi pitch arrived as a one-minute video—delivered with A-list star power and a logo at the end of every scene—and landed with a thud among many of his fans.

The ad, posted from Chalamet’s X account, shows him in a series of deliberately nonsensical, non-Kalshi-related situations. He first appears in a dentist’s office. getting a procedure done while trying to pronounce the word “Kalshi.” Then he’s shown jumping in a bedroom. trying to tap the ceiling with his head to stop music coming from above. In the final scene, Chalamet is in a red-walled music store, playing the piano. In each moment, Kalshi’s logo appears in white at the end of the segment, with no further explanation.

The backlash is immediate and public. One X user replied to the video: “Delete this bro we were rooting for you.” Another added, “you are a rich and famous actor, why are you promoting trash?”

The ad has already racked up more than 6 million views and almost 2. 000 replies. but a large share of that attention is negative—focused less on the creativity of the campaign and more on what fans believe the partnership represents. Several commenters tied their anger to concerns about online betting and how addictive it can be.

“Ruining a multi-year generational run for Kalshi is crazy,” one user wrote. Another said, “this completely cancels out all of the goodwill you have garnered over the last few years.”

Others were harsher, writing that they believe celebrities who take online gambling ads are crossing a line. One user called for aggressive pushback: “I seriously think we need to viciously bully any celebrity who sells out to take a Kalshi. Polymarket. or any type of online gambling ad. Gross, manipulative, and dangerous thing to promote to your huge audience.”.

Fans also pointed to what they see as a mismatch between Chalamet’s recent public messaging and the brand deal. Many referenced comments he made while accepting his 2025 Screen Actors Guild Award. During the speech. Chalamet said he was in the “pursuit of greatness. ” and commenters said that language clashes with the Kalshi advertisement.

“A Kalshi ad? I thought you wanted greatness man,” one user responded on X.

The conversation then broadened beyond the ad itself, pulling in other cultural moments fans think help explain why the campaign feels wrong to them. Some referenced Chalamet’s viral appearances at the Knicks games, noting that they’ve become known for sky-high ticket prices.

“Finally figured out how timothee chalamet was affording courtside knicks tickets,” one user wrote.

Most of the most biting remarks, though, landed on awards—and on the actor’s Oscar prospects. Fans used the comment section to joke, complain, and criticize his track record after he lost earlier this year for his role in Marty Supreme, despite being nominated.

“Timothée Chalamet doing Kalshi ads. Yep, Michael B Jordan deserved that Oscar over him,” one user posted. Another added, “Bro is never gonna win an Oscar, you can bet on that on @Kalshi.”

  1. I mean it’s literally one minute, why are people acting like he’s personally running a casino out his kitchen. But yeah the gambling stuff is sketchy, I’ll give you that.

  2. “Selling out” seems harsh but… betting addiction is real and celebrities always pretend it’s just “fun.” Also doesn’t he talk about greatness and stuff? This feels opposite of that, like they’re using him to normalize it.

  3. Why is his ad in a dentist office like that’s even a Kalshi thing? I watched it once and I’m still confused, like is he trying to pronounce Kalshi or is that part some promo for mouth gambling or whatever. And 6 million views doesn’t mean it’s good, it just means people hate it faster.
