Celtics face Jaylen Brown trade price reality

Celtics must – With trade chatter swirling around Jaylen Brown, a new report says Boston may have to cut its asking price dramatically—potentially up to four first-round picks—if it wants a deal anytime soon.

For weeks, the Celtics have treated Jaylen Brown like a centerpiece trade asset—something they could move if the price was right. But the longer they keep shopping him, the narrower the path appears to be getting.

A Tuesday report from Sam Amick said the Celtics’ current demands are colliding with the market. “Barring a drastic and unforeseen change in the market. the Boston Celtics will have to significantly lower their asking price if they plan on trading [Brown] anytime soon. ” Amick wrote. He added that the Celtics have been “asking for up to four first-round picks (in addition to players) for a team to land the 29-year-old forward.”.

That assessment lands after Boston’s trade planning has already been tested once this offseason. A week after the Celtics missed out on the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, their contingency plans—centered on moving Brown—don’t appear to be gaining traction.

There’s also another strain showing up in the reporting. On Monday. a report from The Boston Globe said the Celtics’ continued efforts to deal Brown have left him disgruntled. pointing to the backdrop of an offseason filled with trade rumors. League sources said Boston has continued to field calls from teams interested in trading for Brown. The report also said Brown has grown frustrated with the organization’s approach after a season in which he guided the Celtics to 56 wins while Jayson Tatum was sidelined for months with an Achilles injury.

The Globe report left the door open on whether the Celtics are actively trying to trade Brown or simply listening to pitches. It said “one league source” told the paper it remains unclear if Boston is urgently attempting to trade him or simply taking inquiries. It also added that Brown could still return next season, “even if some uncomfortable conversations must happen first.”.

Even potential backstops haven’t softened the pressure. The Celtics had considered the Portland Trail Blazers as a possible pivot after Antetokounmpo was dealt to Miami. But after Portland traded for guard Ja Morant on Monday, Amick’s report suggested the path there is limited. “League sources have been tying the Blazers to Brown for some time now. but all indications are that their interest is moderate. at best. ” Amick wrote. He said nothing close to what the Celtics have been asking is on the table. citing sources who spoke on condition of anonymity about ongoing deliberations.

Amick also said the reported interest from other contenders may be inflated. He wrote that the Nuggets’ interest in Brown has been “significantly overstated. ” beyond the limited assets Denver could offer in a potential Brown deal. And he added that the Nets are another club that is “not engaged” in trade talks with the Celtics.

The Celtics’ dilemma. as the reports line up. is stark: hold the line on a price that may not move players. or adjust quickly enough to turn Brown into something more than a headline. The friction isn’t just about assets on paper—it’s about what prolonged uncertainty is doing to a player who has already helped Boston build its best result of his career.

  1. So basically the Celtics are mad nobody wants to overpay again. I feel like they shoulda just taken the Giannis stuff then this wouldn’t even be happening. Also Brown being “disgruntled” sounds like drama for no reason.

  2. Wait, aren’t four first-round picks like… impossible unless they’re also throwing in Tatum or something? Like I heard somewhere Brown wants out, but then the article says they’re listening to pitches. So which is it, trade him or keep him and just complain?

  3. This reads like Boston won’t budge on the price and the market is like no thanks. But then they say Brown was 56 wins and Tatum was injured so why would teams not want him? I swear every offseason turns into the same thing: “rumors,” “calls,” “disgruntled,” and then nobody gets traded until like January or later.
