“An initial investigation revealed that a northbound SUV crossed the central line and collided with a southbound SUV,” said Cpl. Matthew Howell. “There was an EMS on scene who confirmed that the female passenger of the southbound SUV was deceased,” he said. Witnesses said the northbound SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision, Howell said, adding there was no evidence to suggest drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to
hospital with serious injuries. “Our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Whenever something like this happens on the road, it’s always a tragedy for those involved,” Howell said. With details emerging that Derksen, 45, was returning from her father’s funeral, it’s tragedy upon tragedy for the family, he said.
