When the NBA Draft results landed and Cameron Boozer’s name came up third overall, it wasn’t just a career milestone—it was a family moment that played out in real time, right after the draft in New York.
TMZ Sports was in NYC on Tuesday, where the Boozer family was on hand, including Carlos Boozer, who played 13 seasons in the Association. The guidance came quickly when asked what he plans to tell his 18-year-old son after the draft.
Carlos. who was the 35th overall pick in 2002. said his biggest advice is simple and immediate: “My biggest advice would be to be where your feet are. Just enjoy the process. A lot of times we get caught up on thinking about what happened before. or looking forward to something coming in the future. My biggest advice is be where you are, enjoy every moment. Like today, we’re gonna fly to Memphis, and go enjoy Memphis.”.
His message sounded like a reminder that the hard parts are ahead, but the moment is happening now. And in the pride that followed, it was clear Carlos wasn’t treating the night like a press moment—he was treating it like a turning point.
“Last night was amazing. So excited for Cameron. He’s had a helluva journey. Worked his butt off. The entire family is very proud of him, going to Memphis,” Carlos said.
Cameron Boozer is headed to the Memphis Grizzlies, after being picked 3rd overall. Next season, Memphis will be relying heavily on his talents after a 25–57 season in 2025–2026. The expectations are immediate—especially with Cameron coming in as the 2026 Wooden Award winner.
For the Boozer family, though, the first step is still the same one Carlos pointed out: be present in the process. “Today, we’re gonna fly to Memphis,” he said, and now that flight is part of the story—draft night pride turning into a new chapter with the Grizzlies.
